Challenge of High School Golf 1) Century provides all green fees for practices and meets. The only transportation we supply is to golf meets outside of Rochester. The golfer is responsible for all other equipment and expenses. 2) If the course is open for play, we play and practice in all weather conditions except lightning and strong winds. 3) High school golf is competitive and played by USGA rules. All golfers must learn to play by the rules of golf. 4) Golfers must be able to play 9 holes in less than 2 hours and 30 minutes and 18 holes in around 4 hours and 30 minutes. We play many 9 hole- qualifying rounds after school and all our meets are 18 holes. This translates into scoring under 120 for 18 holes or learning to play quickly enough to keep up with the rest of the group.

5) The group (usually foursomes) they play with at practices and meets will be assigned. In meets they usually do not play with someone from Century. 6) After Eastwood opens for the season, the golfers will spend a great deal of time on the course (2+ hours for practice and 5+ hours for meets). They will be tired, but still need to complete their homework. 7) High school golfers miss a great deal of school for golf meets not in Rochester. The total time for travel and golfing is often 10 hours. Golfers must still complete their schoolwork on time. Playing golf is never an excuse for being behind in school. (We had 4 All-state All- Academic golfers last year.) 8) I am not a golf professional. I teach the impact zone of the golf swing. We spend a lot of time working on putting, chipping, and pitching. The high school golf season is only a couple of months, so to excel at the game they must play and practice during the summer.
