ARMS DRILL

SAVDHAN (ATTENTION) The normal position of attention is to be maintained. Right hand will hold the rifle at the right side. Thumb on left of the rifle and touching the left fingers together slanting towards the ground. Back of the hand to the right and wrist well behind the rifle.

Toe of the butt in line with the toe cap of the boot Butt of the rifle flat on the ground and magazine to the front. Toe of the butt in line with the toe cap of the boot Rifle close to the body.

VISHRAM (STAND-AT-EASE) Bend the left knee and carry the left leg to the left. Heel to heel distance 12 inches. Keep the left arm to the side. Force the rifle straight out to the front .

Right hand forward to its full extent . But without moving the hand on the rifle or toe of the butt. Avoid dropping of right shoulder.

ARAM SE (STAND EASY) Force the right hand to the nose cap of the rifle . The fingers and the thumb curling around the rifle. Bend the right arm so that angle of the rifle is not altered.

VISHRAM FROM ARAM SE On the word of command ‘Squad’ Force the right hand down the rifle to correct the position of stand-at ease. Brace the body.

SAVDHAN FROM VISHARAM On the word of command ‘Squad Savdhan’ Pull the rifle into the side keeping the butt on the ground. Resume the position of savdhan keeping the left arm to the side.

SAJNA (DRESSING) Movement is same as for Foot Drill except - The front rank raises the left arm instead of right arm. The rifle is raised to the position of short trail when moving.

DISMISSING AND FALLING OUT The procedure will be as for Foot Drill, but rifle will be shouldered before the squad is dismissed.

GROUND ARMS (BHUMI SHASTR) AND TAKE UP ARMS (UTHAO SHASTR)

GROUND ARMS On the command ‘Bhumi Shastra - Ek’ Keep the body straight but inclined forward. Bend down by bending and opening the knees keeping the heels together.

Lay the rifle gently on the ground at right side. Magazine to the right, muzzle pointing straight to the front. Right hand inline with the toe of the boot.

On ‘Squad Do’ Release the rifle with the right hand. Resume the position of attention.

TAKE UP ARMS On the command ‘Uthao Shastr- Ek’ Bend down as in first movement of ground arms. Hold the rifle in right hand firmly.

TAKE UP ARMS On Squad “DO” Resume the position of attention. Bring the rifle to its position at order.

SHOULDER ARM FROM THE ORDER AND VICE VERSA

SHOULDER ARMS (BAGAL SHASTR) On the command ‘Bagal Shastr- Ek’ Throw the rifle perpendicularly up the right side with right hand. Left hand across the body seize the rifle in with waist belt on the fore hand guard

Right hand on the pistol grip with forefinger from outside and thumb from inside. Barrel resting in the hollow of the right shoulder.

On Squad ‘DO’ Bring the left hand sharply to side without striking the thigh.

ORDER ARM (BAJU SHATR) On the command ‘Bazu Shastr-Ek’ Hold the barrel at the flash eliminator with left hand. On ‘Squad Do’ Lower the rifle with left hand till the butt is one inch from the ground and hold the rifle on the forehand guard with right hand just below the foresight simultaneously.

ORDER ARM (BAJU SHATR) On ‘Squad Teen’ Bring the left hand sharply to the side as in attention position and place the rifle butt on ground simultaneously. Avoid dropping the rifle butt.

PRESENT ARMS FROM THE ORDER ARMS AND VICE VERSA

PRESENT ARMS (SALAMI SHASTR) On the command ‘Salami Shastra-Ek’ Throw the rifle upwards with right hand, catching it with the left hand at forehand guard, left arm parallel to the ground. At same time right hand at small of the butt, thumb to the left, elbow to the rear.

On ‘Squad Do’ Bring the rifle to a perpendicular position in front and centre of the body. Striking left hand on left side of rifle magazine and hold small of the butt with right hand simultaneously.

On ‘Squad Teen’ Bring the rifle down, perpendicularly in front of and about three inches from the centre of the body. Hold the forehand guard with left hand by carrying the hand straight to the front. Left hand thumb pointing upward and knuckles facing front.

Right arm fully extended supporting the rifle at the small of the butt, thumb to the left side, fingers to the right side of rifle slanting downwards. At the same time place the hollow of right foot to the rear of left heel.

ORDER ARMS (BAJU SHASTR) On the command ‘Baju Shastr-Ek’ Hold the rifle with right hand just above of left hand, bring the right heel inline with left heel simultaneously. On ‘Squad Do’ Lower the rifle to the right side, holding the rifle with right hand, butt just clear away from the ground. Right hand steadying the rifle at muzzle, all fingers straight pointing towards the right side.

ORDER ARMS (BAJU SHASTR) On ‘Squad Teen’ Bring the left hand sharply to the side to attention position without striking the thigh. Note: After sufficient practice of part by part , perform the full movement under the word of command “Salami Shastr” . Follow the gap two paces in quick time between the parts.

SALUTING AT SHOULDER AT THE HALT

FRONT SALUTE The salute with rifle is carried out at the shoulder arm. Strike the forehand guard with left hand, keeping the left forearm parallel to the ground. Observe the gap of two paces in quick time and bring the hand down.

RIGHT SALUTE Movement is same except the turning of head and eyes towards the right side.

LEFT SALUTE Movement is same except the turning of head and eyes towards the left side.

SALUTING AT SHOULDER ON MARCH

FRONT, RIGHT , LEFT SALUTE ON THE MARCH Movement is same as in Foot Drill except the saluting position. The salute will be carried out in the manner already explained.

PORT ARMS (BAEN SHASTR) On the command ‘Baen Shastr’ The rifle is to be canted with right hand smartly across the body. The barrel crossing the point of left shoulder. The thumb and finger of left hand are to placed round the rifle. Left wrist opposite the left breast.

At the same time the small of the butt is to be gripped with the right hand, back of hand uppermost. Both elbows are to be kept close to the body Rifle held about 3 inches clear of the body.

ORDER ARMS FROM PORT ARMS On the command ‘Baju Shastr-Ek’ The rifle is to be held steady with left hand, and gripped with right hand just above the left hand, back of the hand uppermost. On ‘Squad Do’ The rifle is to be carried across the body to a perpendicular position at right side, with magazine facing to front.

ORDER ARMS FROM PORT ARMS Muzzle of rifle is to steadied with the left hand. The fingers and thumb are to be straight and straight . The butt is to be held just clear of the ground . On ‘Squad Teen’ The butt of the rifle is to be placed quietly on the ground and then left arm smartly to the side.

EXAMINE ARMS (JANCH SHASTR) On the command ‘Janch Shastr-Ek’ A half turn is to be made to the right (pivoting on right heel) and the left foot is to be advanced 12 inches to the front. At the same time the muzzle of the rifle is to be inclined to enable the inspecting officer to look through the barrel. The butt is to be rest on right hip. Both elbows are to be kept close to the sides.

EXAMINE ARMS (JANCH SHASTR) On ‘Squad Do’ The right hand is to be brought to the breech, and thumb placed in front of the bolt so that the thumb nail reflects light in to the barrel. Trigger guard is to be covered by the fingers of the right hand.

ORDER ARMS FROM THE EXAMINE ARMS On the command ‘Baju Shastr-Ek’ The rifle is to be gripped at or near the band with the right hand . At the same time left foot is to be brought smartly back to the right foot. On ‘Squad Do’ The rifle is to be brought to the right side, butt just clear from ground, left hand steadying the nose cap. On ‘Squad Teen’ Place the rifle butt quietly on the ground and bring the left hand sharply by the side.
