His youth born on the 28th of June 1491 at Greenwich the second son of Henry VII and Elizabeth of York succeeded to the throne on the 22nd of April 1509 after his father´s and brother´s death He was 18 years old Married his brother‘s widow Catherine of Aragon

His youth Not interested in politics at first Loved:hunting, hawking, archery, wrestling, tennis, jousting, horseriding

His wars against France Captured Thérouanne and Tournai(northern France) in 1513  Spent 1 million pounds on this action Next invasion: in 1523  Failed because of hard frosts and very bad weather

His break with Rome He wanted to divorce with Catherine of Aragon(she didn´t give him son) The pope didn´t agree Henry created his own church-the Church of England he proclaimed himself 'the only supreme head on earth of the Church of England'

His appearance and character When he was young, he was a superb athlete=>very handsome His fingers were full of jewelled rings, around his neck he wore a gold collar from which hung a diamond as big as a walnut. His clothes were magnificent- made from silks, cloth of gold, satins, coloured feathers and jewells and precious metals But he was egotistical, and ambitious for money and power

His last days He could hardly walk or stand became paranoid in his final years-trusted no one Died on January 28, 1547 He was 56 years old The cause of his death remains unknown-He possibly suffered a thrombosis in his leg or coronary heart failure Buried in Windsor Castle next to Jane Seymour
