The Parts of a Plant

The flower is the part of the plant that attracts pollinators such as bees. The flower is the part of the plant that makes seeds which will grow into plants. Flower

The leaves are where the food in stored in the plant. The leaves have small openings which let water and air come and go. The leaves obtain energy from the sunlight. This energy is used to turn the air and water into food for the plant. Leave s

The stem supports the plant. The stem transports water, nutrients, and plant chemicals up and down to all of the parts of the plant. Stem

The roots make sure that the plant is steady in the ground. Even though the roots are hidden underground, they are important because they absorb water and nutrients from the soil. The roots also store food for future use. Roots

The Parts of a Plant Plant Flower Leaves Stem Roots

I would use this PowerPoint presentation to teach students about the parts of a plant. By focusing on one part of the plant at a time, the students will be able to understand how each part of the plant is important and how the parts of a plant are connected. I would use this in a science lesson to teach students how plants grow and why they are important in our lives. I would have the students grow their own plant and observe it as it grows. I would have students fill in a KWL chart. They would write down what they know about plants and what they would like to know about plants. The students would also create their own diagrams about the important parts of a plant. The students can add more observations than the ones they have learned. At the end of the lesson, I would have students share their diagrams of a plant and what they have learned from this assignment.
