 Redefining technology  Redefining Significance  What is technology  Relation of Science to Technology  Eras of Human History  Ancient Technologies  Values of Technology and How it Effect Every Day Life

 Technology is more than electronic gadgets.  Before the 1970’s it was believed that technology was influenced my males without female influences. Diana Argueta

 Technology : the practical application of knowledge especially in a particular area ◦ Farming methods ◦ Medical procedures  Women have also greatly influenced technology. ◦ Mary Anderson ◦ Bette Nesmith Graham Diana Argueta

 According to Autumn Stanley there are 4 ways to show the importance of women’s influence in technology 1.) showing the foundational nature of many of women’s major early inventions and innovations. 2.) “renaming” and or/ reclassifying certain of women’s inventions both to show their proper ontological place in technology, and to revalue them in the interim until the new view of significance can take hold 3.) documenting women’s achievement in areas already defined as significant by males 4.)proposing a new and arguably more valid definition of significance that will include rather than exclude women’s work to date. Diana Argueta

 Autumn Stanley also believes that significance can be defined by examining 1.) technological impact 2.) economic impact 3.) human impact  A significant invention will impact technology, the economy, and people around the world regardless of the inventors gender. Diana Argueta

 The application of knowledge, tools, and processes to solve practical problems and extend human capabilities. Yazmin Reynaga

Technology is the application of knowledge. TECHNOLOGY is the use of knowledge to turn resources into the goods and services that society needs. Science is the accumulation of knowledge. SCIENCE is the study of WHY natural things happen the way they do. SCIENCE Techology Yazmin Reynaga

SCIENTISTS & TECHNOLOGISTS Separate But Equal! Scientists Biologists, chemists, and physicists are… Architects, engineers, product designers and technicians are… Technologists Yazmin Reynaga

SCIENTISTTECHNOLOGIST Use the materials in the earth to make useful objects. Study how the earth was formed and what it is made from. Yazmin Reynaga

SCIENTISTTECHNOLOGIST Build and launch space shuttles and satellites. Make artificial hearts and limbs. Use codes to develop new medicines and vaccines. Study the relationship between the earth, planets, and the stars. Discover the way the human body works. Discover genetic codes that determine the nature of life. Yazmin Reynaga

WHY?

HOW?

Science and technology are interdependent to one another but there is a distinction between them Janika Gonzales

 Science ◦ Goals: to search for knowledge and understanding for its own sake  Discovery  Drawing correct conclusions based on good theories and accurate data  Using logical skills  Technology ◦ Goals: to create artifacts and systems to meet people’s needs  Production and invention  Enhancing interpersonal and communication skills  Making good decisions based on incomplete data and approximate models Janika Gonzales
