TECHNOLOGY

TECHNOLOGY Technology is the collection of techniques, skills, methods and processes used in the production of goods or services or in the accomplishment of objectives, such as scientific investigation. The Human species’ use of technology began with the conversion of natural resources into simple tools. Technology has many effects. It has helped develop more advanced economies and has allowed the rise of a leisure class. Many technological processes produce unwanted by-products known as pollution and deplete natural resources to the detriment of Earth’s environment. Philosophical debates have arisen over the use of technology, with disagreements over whether technology. The distinction between science, engineering and technology is not always clear. Science is systematic knowledge of the physical or material world gained through observation and experimentation. Engineering is the goal-oriented process of designing and making tools and systems to exploit natural phenomena for practical human means using results and techniques from science. Technology is often a consequence of science and engineering.

HISTORY The use of tools by early humans was partly a process of discovery and evolution of the use of technology. Stone tools were started to be used millions of the years ago. After that discovery and utilization of fire, a simple energy source, is the turning point in the technological evolution of humankind. Polished stone axes were invented in New Stone Age period. Continuing improvements led to the furnace and bellows and provided the ability to smelt and forge native metals. Gold, copper, silver and lead were such early metals. The wheel was invented around 4000 BCE probably. The invention of the wheel revolutionized trade and war. Innovations continued through the middle ages within innovations such as silk, the horse collar and horse shoes including printing press. Technology took another step in industrial revolution with the discovery of technology in the areas of agriculture, manufacturing, mining and transport driven by the discovery steam power, electric moter light bulb. Communication was improved with the invention of telegraph, telephone, radio and television. The late 19th and early 20th centuries saw a revolution in transportation with the invention of aero plane and automobile

TYPES OF TECHNOLOGY Educational technology Digital technology
Biotechnology Energy technology Military technology Food technology 7. Media technology 8. sports technology 9. Space technology

Educational technology
Educational technology is the use of the technology in education to improve learning and teaching . Educational technology is related to instructional technology and leaning technology, but different groups prefer different terms and each has its own historical significance.

BIOTECHNOLOGY Biotechnology is a technology based on biology, especially when used in agriculture, food science, medicine and genetic engineering.

Energy technology Energy technology is an interdisciplinary engineering science having to do with the efficient, safe, environmentally friendly and economical extraction, conversion, transportation, storage and use of energy.

Military technology Military technology is the application of technology for use in warfare. It is often researched and developed by scientists and engineers specifically for use in battle by the armed forces.

Food technology Food technology is a branch of food science that deals with the production processes that make foods. Louis Pasteur developed pasteurization-the process of heating milk and milk products to destroy the food spoilage and decease producing organisms . He became the pioneer into bacteriology and modern preventive medicine.

Media technology Media technology covers areas such as web design, photography, film and interaction design. The subject has both practical and theoretical aspects.

Sports technology In various forms has been utilized in sport for many years. A major trend in sports technology is toward real time application of devices that provide athletes and coaches feed back across a wide range of performance factors.

Space technology Space technology is technology developed by space science or the aerospace industry for use in spaceflight, satellites, or space exploration. Space technology includes spacecraft, satellites, space stations, and support infrastructure, equipment, and procedures.

Future technology Theories of technology often attempt to predict the future of technology based on the high technology and science of the time. Futurist Ray Kurzweil predicts that the future of technology will be mainly consist of an overlapping “GNR Revolution” of Genetics, Nanotechnology and Robotics.
