moving communities toward mission Encouraged and Uplifted Inspired and Energized More humble and dependent on the Spirit More competent and confident to lead Seeds of personal revival in your life and home The Goals of this Leadership Weekend

moving communities toward mission We are responsible for following Jesus ourselves We are responsible for helping others follow Jesus (both are difficult) The challenge leaders face

moving communities toward mission Sometimes we think we cannot keep our own lives straight, therefore, we have no business trying to impact others. (this is a lie from the enemy) Sometimes we feel like we cannot even keep our own lives straight, therefore, we have no business trying to impact others. (this is a lie from Satan)

moving communities toward mission The time has come, he said. “The kingdom of God is near. Repent and believe the good news!” As Jesus walked beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. Come, follow me, Jesus said, “and I will make you fishers of men.” At once they left their nets and followed him. Mark 1:15-18

moving communities toward mission Jesus teaches us that following him and leading others to follow him are two sides of the same coin. In other words, you cannot be a disciple, if you are not also a discipler.

moving communities toward mission Leading “groups” of people does require some giftedness/skill. The larger the group, the greater the skill needed. God gives some the “gift of leadership” in various portions to lead larger groups/gatherings.

moving communities toward mission Most leadership, however, is not about giftedness; it is about influence. Jesus taught leadership is about servanthood, humility, and modeling a walk with God to others. In this regard, Jesus calls everyone to lead.

moving communities toward mission The question isn’t about the “success” of your mission community; rather, how well are you doing with serving, humility, and being an example? Is your life/family impacting those in your group and outsiders by the way you live?

moving communities toward mission If you are highly skilled as a leader, and you lead others by your skill, everyone will look to you as “THE LEADER” but no one else will feel competent to lead (they will see themselves merely as followers).

moving communities toward mission There is something dynamic and reproducible about unskilled leaders leading others. This is what most of us are.

moving communities toward mission When they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus. Acts 4:13

moving communities toward mission If you are following Jesus, you are competent to lead. You do not need formal training. You need someone mentoring and investing in you, so that you in turn can mentor and invest in others.

moving communities toward mission And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable men who will also be qualified to teach others. 2 Timothy 2:2

moving communities toward mission Your leadership and influence is more about who you are, and even more about who you are becoming, than it is about the things that occupy most of our time (the administrative aspects of leading).

moving communities toward mission Greater commitment to a lifestyle of discipleship A mindset that we are missionaries to the lost Greater openness to gifts/promptings/dependence on the Spirit I was personally moved by God in three areas:

moving communities toward mission Allowing God to do deep and meaningful things in our hearts and lives (inward), and as we invest in others (outward), they witness and are impacted by our progressing walk with God. Inside Out Ministry:

moving communities toward mission Even though you have ten thousand guardians in Christ, you do not have many fathers, for in Christ Jesus I became your father through the gospel. Therefore I urge you to imitate me. For this reason I am sending to you Timothy, my son whom I love, who is faithful in the Lord. He will remind you of my way of life in Christ Jesus, which agrees with what I teach everywhere in every church. 1 Corinthians 4:15-17

moving communities toward mission Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ. 1 Corinthians 11:1

moving communities toward mission We loved you so much that we were delighted to share with you not only the gospel of God but our lives as well, because you had become so dear to us. 1 Thessalonians 2:8

moving communities toward mission Personal Family Mission Community Outsiders What is the connection among the four areas of focus in your life-pursuit of worshiping God? How inter-related are they?
