INTERNALIZING VALUES

Conflicts are inevitable in relationships. Unresolved conflicts negatively effect relationships. When the messenger is not ACCEPTED the message is REJECTED. When the messenger is not ACCEPTED the message is REJECTED. Conflicts arise when values are not SHARED. Conflicts arise when values are not SHARED. INTERNALIZING VALUES PART ONE: RESTORING RELATIONSHIPS WITH CHILDREN

INTERNALIZING VALUES 6.Major on the MAJOR. a.Don’t have to fight EVERY issue. b.Give in to MINOR issues. c.Learn to ADJUST. d.Communicate core VALUES. e.Ask: Is it a MORAL issue? f.Ask: Will it MATTER10 years from now?

INTERNALIZING VALUES PART TWO The ultimate goal of parenting is to help our children mature into Christ-likeness. To learn to live independently from us and be dependent on the Lord. Most parents focus on external behavior. What is crucial is how they will behave when we are no longer around.

John 14:6 – Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father, but through Me. Romans 6:23 – For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Ezekiel 36:26 – “Moreover, I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; and I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. 2 Timothy 3:16 – All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness.

INTERNALIZING VALUES II. THE NEED FOR GOD 6.Our children need to be EMPOWERED by the Holy Spirit. Galatians 5:16 – But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh. Galatians 5:22-23 – 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self- control; against such things there is no law.
