 Cold War era military conflict  Took place in Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia

 Fought between North Vietnam and its communist allies and the U.S.

 The U.S was supported by South Nam and other non-communists

 Widely protested by American citizens

 Richie Perry: Just graduated high school and lives with his mother and little brother Kenny.

 Richie Perry graduated from High School.

 What does he do? Stay in Harlem and fight in the streets?

 NO!  He joined the army and is shipped of to Nam

 He realizes that all he wants is to go home back to his mother and little brother

 He meets Peewee, Lobel, Johnson, Brunner and Jenkins. Lobel thinks the war is just a movie.

 Jenkins is killed

 By a landmine

 They visit a Vietnamese village and realize how desperate the villagers are.

 They get ambushed and Lieutenant Carrol is killed. Richie placed a claymore.

 They saw a Cong turn the claymore around but it did not kill any Americans. So what way was it facing to begin with?

 Uh Oh!

 Richie gets transferred to a new platoon.

 They begin to hear rumors that the war is coming to an end.

 Are they true?

 Are they going home?

 After a few more battles they are on there way home.

 On the plane Richie reflects on his experience

 He remembers…

 He remembers Jenkins, Lieutenant Carrol and others that died while fighting for there country in Nam

 But he is okay

 He is going home alive

 Going through hard times can make a person stronger

 Lobel still thinks that the whole war was just a movie

 Richie is just glad to be going home to his family, especially Kenny
