Non-Communist- South Vietnam
1957- Vietnam War breaks out
North Vietnam invades South Vietnam
Battle between the 2 for control of the nations

4. Vietnam War Continued
United States become involved- wants to prevent communism from spreading
Policy of Containment to prevent “Domino Theory”
Fighting spilled over to Cambodia and Laos
Communist governments also began
1975- North Vietnam takes full control of the country
Following the Vietnam War, the entire peninsula becomes communist

6. Opposition to Vietnam War
U.S. citizens divided on whether or not to become involved in the war.
Many felt it was not “our place” to become involved.
