How is the Torch Run Helping Special Olympics Alberta? Special Olympics Alberta offers programs in 114 communities around the province through 35 Affiliates, each with its own volunteer management Committee, volunteer coaches, and local programs. There are over 1600 volunteers working with over 3200 athletes in 15 official sports and 4 developing sports in year-round programs. Competitions take place at the local, provincial, national, and international levels at regular intervals. Law Enforcement Torch Run and Special Olympics Alberta work very hard to ensure that every dollar raised positively affects each athlete involved in the program. Involvement in sports helps athletes develop athletic skills, as well as building self-confidence, social skills, sportsmanship, and camaraderie. Special Olympics Athletes Oath “Let me win. But if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt.”
