Lesson Objectives: To understand the term ‘health’ To understand the global pattern of health

In pairs, answer the following questions, 1. What is meant by the term health? 2. What do you think ‘good health’ is and how do you achieve it? 3. Write down 5 ideas that you may have seen in the news or online about positive and negative issues concerning health.

 Development is linked to good health.  Developed nations have a lower birth rate, greater life expectancy and lower death rate. What roles does health play in this?  Why do poorer nations suffer from poorer health?

 The WHO agenda is: 1. Promoting development 2. Fostering health security 3. Strengthening health systems health services must reach poor and underserved populations 4. Harnessing research, information and evidence 5. Enhancing partnerships WHO carries out its work with the support and collaboration of many partners, including UN agencies and other international organizations, donors, civil society and the private sector 6. Improving performance
