 before eating or touching food (like if you're helping cook or bake)  after using the bathroom  after blowing your nose or coughing  after touching pets or other animals  after playing outside  before and after visiting a sick relative or friend WHEN ARE THE BEST TIMES TO WASH YOUR HANDS? BLOOM’S TAXOMOMY LEVEL: Comprehension

 Learning about germs and the importance of washing hands.  Objectives:  Students will have a concrete example as to why they should wash their hands with soap and warm water.  Students will understand that germs are smaller than the eye can see.  Materials:  Glitter  Paper Towels  Hand Lotion  Bucket (to catch glitter)  Procedure: (Be sure to find out if any students have allergies to hand lotion.)  Ask: What is a germ? How big is it? Why is it important to wash your hands?  Put a small amount of hand lotion in each student's hands. Have them rub it all over their hands.  Sprinkle, over a bucket, a small amount of glitter into each student's hands. Have them rub their hands to spread the glitter evenly.  Next, have a few kids try to get the glitter off with dry paper towel.  Then, have a few kids try to get the glitter off with plain, cold water. After that, have a few kids use warm water, with soap, to get the glitter germs off.  Let everyone wash his or her hands with warm, soapy water.  Bring everyone back to circle and ask, "What does the glitter represent (Germs)? What happened when you tried to get it off with just paper towels? Cold water? Warm, soapy water? Why is it important to properly wash your hands?  Evaluation:  Assessment will be informally based on the Following Criteria:  Students will demonstrate proper hand washing with warm, soapy water.  Each student will understand that germs can be spread by not properly washing their hands.  BLOOM’S TAXOMOMY LEVEL: Knowledge GLITTER GERMS ACTIVITY (WHOLE CLASS INSTRUCTION) GRADE LEVEL(S): K. 1-2 BY: TERRY SAYRE

Explain about healthy eating and food servings. Also, about exercise and sleeping habits DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT A FOOD PYRAMID IS?

ACTIVITIES BLOOM’S TAXOMOMY LEVEL: Application

 Explain to the students that first, you should ask your parent or teacher to help you. Then if you are sick, ask your parents to take you to a doctor who can help you get better. Also, going to a doctor for regular check-ups is a healthy habit.  What if you have a toothache? What kind of doctor would you go to?  A dentist WHO CAN HELP YOU IF YOU ARE HURT OR SICK?

 Explain to the students that by doing these thing, they will live a longer and healthier life. BY DOING THESE THINGS, HOW WILL IT HELP YOU?

 § Health Education, Grade 1.  (a) Introduction.  (2) In Grade 1, students learn more about their bodies and how to care for themselves. Students also begin to learn that relationships exist between behaviors and health, and that there are community helpers such as nurses and doctors who help them stay healthy.  (b) Knowledge and skills.  (1) Health behaviors. The student understands that personal health decisions and behaviors affect health throughout the life span. The student is expected to:  (A) describe and practice activities that enhance individual health such as enough sleep, nutrition, and exercise; and  (B) describe activities that are provided by health care professionals such as medical check-up and dental exams.  (5) Health information. The student recognizes health information. The student is expected to:  (A) identify people who can provide helpful health information such as parents, teachers, nurses, and physicians; and  (7) Influencing factors.  (C) explain common practices that control the way germs are spread.
