Duties & Responsibilities Most Common: Carpool Lines “Car line runs smoother and less parents become frustrated waiting in line. Nearly all parents and students are buckling up. Previously less than ½ were buckling up before the Patrols were on duty reminding them ‘don’t’ forget to buckle up’ as they loaded the students in their cars. The students who are involved in Safety Patrols have shown more mature leadership and responsibility traits than their peers.” –Safety Patrol Leader Open and close car doors Direct cars according to procedure Help students in and out of cars (especially younger students) Keep students away from moving cars Remind parents to Buckle Up! Have a nice day! Please turn off cell phones ! 8

Car Pool Line Duty 64% of Safety Patrol Leaders strongly agree that Safety Patrols decrease drop off and pick up time in the car pool line. 9

Other Duties “Not only are the Safety Patrols helping with carpool lines and arrival and dismissal, but they have become role models for younger students. Our Safety Patrol team visits each of our younger classes to talk about their roles as Safety Patrols. During this time, they also talk to the kids about walking to school safely, bike safety and being good helpers.” –Safety Patrol Leader Hall monitors “Student ambassadors” Peer Tutoring Teach younger students about safety Help with Walk to School Days Organize fundraisers and community events 10
