ShakeCast Project Scope ShakeCast = ShakeMap BroadCast Improve basic web-based pager and earthquake notification services for Caltrans. Refine preliminary bridge damage assessment methods. Develop ShakeCast to automate:  Retrieval of ShakeMaps  Analysis of bridge inventory for damage likelihood  Delivery of bridge inspection priorities by pager and

Functions:  Automatic delivery of ShakeMap products to Caltrans.  Automatic analysis of potential bridge damage state based on Basoz & Mander methodology using ShakeMap peak spectral accelerations.  /Page bridge inspection prioritization lists.

Public Release Nov., 2007 (at Caltech Earthquake Research Affiliates Meeting, Pasadena) Automatic delivery and use of ShakeMap for Critical Users ShakeCast “Lite” for scientists and casual users.

Summary Benefits  Represents the most reliable information within the first hours following an event.  Responders get information 10 to 15 minutes following an earthquake. Limitations  ShakeCast does not report “real” damage.
