Introduction Are college students aware of the Monongalia County Health Department services? Are college students practicing preventative health care measures? What are the current social trends of college students?

Methods 102 college students, anonymous, random selection 4 demographic questions (sex, age, class, housing) 11 questions concerning preventative healthcare measures (vaccination, tobacco, condom usage, HIV awareness) Chi Square tests were performed to determine if results were significant

Results 61% of students living in dorms have received the vaccine for meningitis. Freshmen have the highest meningitis vaccination rate. –50% of all freshmen surveyed have received the vaccine. –55% of all responding that they had the vaccine were freshmen. 30% of all students had the meningitis vaccine. –100% of them were under age 25.

Results (continued) Students that live in a dorm are more likely to use condoms than those students that do not live in a dorm. More students living in a dorm reported their sexual activity was affected by alcohol.

Results (continued) 64% of students reported they do not use tobacco. Tobacco is used more by lower classmen. –87% of graduate students never use tobacco. –53% of freshmen never use tobacco. –Of all the students using tobacco, 43% were freshmen.

Results (continued) 78% of students reported being exposed to second-hand smoke on campus. –64% of all students who felt to be frequently exposed to second-hand smoke were freshmen. –68% of students exposed to second-hand smoke were under age 25. –93% of students under 20 were exposed to second-hand smoke, while only 33% of students over 36 were exposed.

Results (continued) 88% percent of all students have not received an HIV test. Of the students responding that they have been HIV tested, the majority were upperclassmen. – 83% were juniors, seniors and grad students – 67% were over the age of 25
