The way an individual views and believes others view his or her body.

What is body image?

A condition in which an excessive proportion of body tissue is fat; being 20% or more above desirable weight.

What is obesity?

Ideas, customs, skills, and arts of a people or group.

What is culture?

A health-threatening upset in patterns of food consumption.

What is an eating disorder?

Patterns of living including proper diet, adequate exercise, and appropriate rest, which helps promote, both physical and emotional well-being.

What is healthy lifestyle?

The element of movement; being aware of body shape, parts of the body, and the support and transfer of weight.

What is body awareness?

A number that shows body weight adjusted for height: can be calculated with simple math using inches and pounds; used to access underweight, overweight and risk for overweight.

What is BMI? Body Mass Index

The ratio of body fat to lean body tissue including muscle, bone, water and connective tissue.

What is body composition?

State or condition of being physically sound and healthy as a result of a life-long commitment to exercise and proper nutrition.

What is lifetime fitness?

The study of foods and the process by which they nourish the body.

What is nutrition?

An eating disorder characterized repeated episodes of binge eating followed by purging behavior.

What is bulimia?

Eating an extraordinarily large amount of food at one time.

What is binge?

An eating disorder characterized by self starvation and refusal to maintain a minimally normal body weight.

What is anorexia nervosa?

Attempts to rid the body of food (vomiting, laxative, and/or diuretic abuse)

What is purging?

The process of losing and regaining weight in an ongoing cycle.

What is yo-yo syndrome?

This group includes bananas, apples, and oranges

People should consume 2 ½ cups of these daily.

What is the vegetable group?

Food in this group are high in complex carbohydrates, fiber, B vitamins, and minerals.

What is the grain group?

This group includes foods high in calcium, protein and vitamins A and D.

People should consume 5 ½ ounces of these daily.

A unit of energy-producing potential equal to this amount of heat that is contained in food.
