Week 4 Deliverables Team Highlander

Patent 1-Motorized Walker Pat No Date 12/08/1992 A motorized walker includes a base upon which a person can stand, with wheels on the base for rollably supporting the base. Variable speed reversible electric motors are provided for driving the wheels. Difference: Does not assist in stand- up process. Similarity: Utilizes motors to help drive walker

Patent 2- Dual Stair Step Walker with Assist Bar Patent No- 5,499,645 Date- March 19, 1996 This patent if for a dual walker that is connected by an assist bar. The main patent itself is for the two foot design with a bar to help people get up out of sitting positions. Difference: Does not have extendable arm Similarity: Assists with stand up process

Patent 3- Walker release button Patent No Date:10/26/1993 Manufacturer: Diamond Medical Equipment Corp. (Mount Vernon, NY) A collapsible walker for elderly and disabled persons including first and second U-shape side frames which are pivotal relative to a front frame, enabling the walker to be collapsed substantially flat. A pushbutton on the sleeve permits disengaging the detent from the catch slot. Difference: Does not assist stand-up process Similarity: Push Button

Patent Claim 1 A mechanism that replaces the rear legs of a standard walker. They collapse in order to lower the walker to a more manageable height and assist in standing up. The novelty of this idea is that it has a self-assisted design rather than using outside forces, such as motors, pneumatics, etc. to help with the stand-up process when an individual uses a walker.

Patent Claim 2 Two support arms extend from the walker frame towards the user to provide assistance such that the user can lift themselves with a vertical motion. Extended arms can retract back to original position within the walker frame. The novelty in this claim is that it provides the user with a tool to help themselves up without external forces.

Patent Claim 3 Walker frame is separated along the horizontal center point and extends to adjustable widths. This function is used to envelope the user when using a chair or adjust for various user sizes. The novelty in this claim is that the walker can be used for various users without the need of a new design and can be used for chairs of varying size.

Product 1-The Original Lift Walker Similarities Lifts user from a sitting position to a standing position Can be used as a walker Differences Very expensive Primary use is for hospitals and patients with disabilities as opposed to the average daily user Straps and harnesses are used Shape A walker primarily used for therapy designed to improve a user’s “strength, balance and coordination.” It utilizes a hydraulic lifting operation that adjusts for a user’s weight and can lift a user from a sitting position. Straps and harnesses may also be used for extra support during lifting operation.

Product 2- Hugo 4.0 Elite Rolling Walker Description It’s a walker with large wheels on it for ease of movement. It comes with a storage pouch and a seat. Another storage compartment is located underneath the seat. Features hand brakes and can be collapsed for easy transport Differences with proposed designs It lacks any sort of ability to aid the user in rising from a chair No ability to adjust the width of the device

Product 3 – The Universal Deluxe Folding Walker Description A standard aluminum frame walker Collapses to fit in a trunk Similarities Similar frame shape Collapsible and portable Made of aluminum Differences No self assist No retractable arms Does not extend in width
