Baptism Maria was baptized in the church of San Francesco in Corinaldo, Italy on the day after her birth October 17,1890. Julie was baptized in the parish church of Cuvilly, Picardy, France on the same day she was born, July 12, 1751.

First Holy Communion Maria received First Holy Communion in the church of Conca, Italy on June 16,1901. She was 10 years old. Julie received First Holy Communion in the parish church, France in She was 9 years old.

Confirmation Maria is confirmed by Bishop Giulio Boschi on October 4, She was 5 years old. Julie was confirmed in She was 13 years old.

Family Life Maria was born the third of six children. Her father was a humble tenant farmer. Her mother was devoted to the Blessed Virgin Mary, thus the name “Maria” Julie was born the fifth of seven children. Her father was a humble farmer and shop keeper. Religious Life As a young girl Maria was devoted to her father and mother. She quickly matured in grace and holiness, and would wear a rosary on her wrist. She would visit the church frequently. As a young girl Julie was devoted to her family. She was mature beyond her years and loved to share her faith with everyone. She would visit the church frequently.

Hardship When Maria was 9, her father died of malaria. She developed great strength and maturity. Her charming modesty, cheerful obedience and the free acceptance of a hundred chores set her apart. When Julie was 16, her father’s shop was robbed. She lost no time in accepting responsibility. She began to work in the field as a laborer. On her free days she would walk or go by donkey to other towns to sell goods.

Death Maria’s last earthly gaze rested upon a picture of the Blessed Mother. Julie’s last words were those spoken by the Blessed Mother, “My soul magnifies the Lord.”

Beatification Maria is declared blessed on April 27, 1947 by Pope Pius XII. Julie is declared blessed on May 13, 1906 by Pope Pius X.

Sainthood Maria is declared a saint in St. Peter’s Square by Pope Pius XII on June 14, Julie is declared a saint in St. Peter’s Square by Pope Paul VI on June 22, 1969.

Patroness Saint Maria Goretti is the patroness of youth, young women, purity, and victims of rape. Saint Julie is the patroness of poverty, bodily ills, and sickness.
