Baptism and Salvation Which Comes First?
Presentation transcript:

Christ died 1Co 15:3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; he was buriedhe rose again 1Co 15:4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

Rom 6:6 Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. In this expression there is a personification of the corrupt propensities of our nature represented as “our old man,” our native disposition, etc. The figure is here carried out, and this old man, this corrupt nature, is represented as having been put to death in an agonizing and torturing manner. Albert Barnes

Eph 4:22 That ye put off concerning the former conversation t tt the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; When a seed is planted in the earth, it appears as if the whole body of it perished. All seeds, as they are commonly termed, are composed of two parts; the germ, which contains the rudiments of the future plant; and the lobes, or body of the seed, which by their decomposition in the ground, become the first nourishment to the extremely fine and delicate roots of the embryo plant, and support it till it is capable of deriving grosser nourishment from the common soil. Adam Clarke Gal 5:24 And they that are Christ's h hh have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.

Col 3:5 Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry:

Rom 6:4 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

Col 2:12 Buried with him in baptism, … Buried with him in baptism - Alluding to the immersions practised in the case of adults, wherein the person appeared to be buried under the Water, as Christ was buried in the heart of the earth. His rising again the third any, and their emerging from the water, was an emblem of the resurrection of the body; and, in them, of a total change of life. Adam Clarke Let’s first look at the foundation of Baptism in the Old Covenant to lay the foundation of Baptism in the New Covenant. Remember this: If it’s not in the Old, then we cannot present it in the New!

were under the cloudall passed through the sea 1Co 10:1 Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea; were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea 1Co 10:2 And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea; saved by water 1Pe 3:20 Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water.

They were borne up by the waters, and were thus preserved. The thought on which the apostle makes his remarks turn, and which leads him in the next verse to the suggestions about baptism, is, that water was employed in their preservation, or that they owed their safety, in an important sense, to that element. In like manner we owe our salvation, in an important sense, to water; or, there is an important agency which it is made to perform in our salvation. Albert Barnes The foundation of Baptism is rooted in the Old Covenant. Salvation was attained by water and through water.

Act 2:37 Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do? be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ Act 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. Act 8:5 Then Philip went down to the city of Samaria, and preached Christ unto them. Act 8:6 And the people with one accord gave heed unto those things which Philip spake, hearing and seeing the miracles which he did. they were baptized, both men and women. Act 8:12 But when they believed Philip preaching the things concerning the kingdom of God, and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women. Simon himself believed also: and when he was baptized Act 8:13 Then Simon himself believed also: and when he was baptized, he continued with Philip, and wondered, beholding the miracles and signs which were done. Samaria receives the Gospel Samaria receives the Gospel

Act 10:1 There was a certain man in Caesarea called Cornelius, a centurion of the band called the Italian band, A devout manone that feared God gave much alms to the peopleprayed to God alway Act 10:2 A devout man, and one that feared God with all his house, which gave much alms to the people, and prayed to God alway. What else did Cornelius need? the Holy Ghost fell on all them Act 10:44 While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word. Act 10:45 And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost. For they heard them speak with tongues, Act 10:46 For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. … baptized Act 10:47 Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we? And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Act 10:48 And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord.

Act 19:1 And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? Act 19:2 He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost. Act 19:4 Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus. they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. Act 19:5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied Act 19:6 And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.

That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection I might attain unto the resurrection of the dead. Php 3:10 That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death; Php 3:11 If by any means I might attain unto the resurrection of the dead. We hear many talk about the Resurrection day, the End of the World, the Rapture, Glorified bodies, Judgment day, etc. But, what is the Resurrection about? And, who is it for? These questions and more will to be addressed in this study.

May 21 st, 2011 The Rapture

Let us take a Biblical look at the Scriptures dealing with the Resurrection! we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection: Rom 6:5 For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection: shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit Rom 8:11 But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you. hath quickened us Eph 2:5 Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;) And hath raised us up together Eph 2:6 And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus: though he were dead, yet shall he live: Joh 11:25 Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: Joh 11:26 And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this ? old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. 2Co 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
