 Content Area: Science  Grade Level: 2 nd Grade  Summary: The purpose of the PowerPoint is for students to learn that animals live in different places.  Learning Objective: Given questions in the PowerPoint, the student will be able to answer the questions about animals living in different places with 100% accuracy.  Content Standard: GLE Investigate living things found in different places.  Accomplishment: The students will gain an understanding of animals and their habitats and answer the questions within the PowerPoint.

 A habitat is a place where a living thing lives.  Different animals live in different habitats.  There are four things that an animal needs to survive in its habitat. 1.food 2.water 3.shelter 4.oxygen

Take out a sheet of paper and try to name three different animals from three different habitats. Example: A camel lives in the desert.

 Two types of forests: 1. Deciduous Forest- where many trees grow with enough rainfall and seasons change 2. Rainforest- receives rain almost everyday and top of trees receive more sunlight than the bottom B ear Deer Raccoon Rabbit Gorilla Bengal Tiger Python Toucan Bald Eagle

Giraffe Zebras Lion Elephant VultureBaboon Dominated by grasses Takes place on flat or rolling land Has periods of rain followed by periods of drought

Camels Kangaroo Ostrich Scorpion Rattlesnake Very Dry and receives little to no rain fall each year Temperatures are high during the day making it very hot Very little vegetation is grown

Dolphin Whale Shark Squid Fish Octopus Covers 70% of the Earth and is the biggest habitat Includes five oceans and other Bays and Gulfs 1.Pacific Ocean 2.Atlantic Ocean 3.Indian Ocean 4.Arctic Ocean 5.Southern Ocean Water is very salty Ocean plays a big role in weather

Polar Bear Lynx Red Fox Snowy Owl Penguins Short days most of the year Harsh cold climate with strong winds Known as “Arctic Desert” Small amounts of perception Most of the ground remains frozen called permafrost

 Question 1: Which of the following do animals need to survive in their habitat? A. Food Food B. Water Water C. Shelter Shelter D. Oxygen Oxygen E. All of the above All of the above  Question 2: The Arctic Tundra receives how much rain fall each year? A. Very little rain fall Very little rain fall B. Enough rain fall Enough rain fall C. Plenty of rain fall Plenty of rain fall

Great Job!  You answered the question correctly! Now try the next question!

 Question 3 Which habitat does the baboon, loin, zebra, and elephant belong in? A. Desert Desert B. Forest Forest C. Grassland Grassland D. Arctic Tundra Arctic Tundra E. None of these None of these  Question 4 Which animal lives in the Arctic Tundra habitat? A. Gorilla Gorilla B. Polar Bear Polar Bear C. Dolphin Dolphin D. Kangaroo Kangaroo

Great Job!  You answered the question correctly! Now try the next question!

 You have now learned about five distinct habitats and several animals that live in them. Can you think of any other animals to put in each habitat that were not listed?
