TRUE HOMONYMS are words which have the same spelling and pronunciation but different meaning. Examples: left (past simple of leave) x left (opposite of right) bank (Bank of England) x bank (bank of a river) fine (= good, well) x fine (= penalty) Think about other examples. kind, may, sink, tire, wave, park, light, box, bark… 11. říjma 20132

HOMONYMS can be also divided into HOMOGRAPHS and HOMOPHONES. HOMOGRAPHS are words which have the same spelling but the different pronunciation and the diffierent meaning. Example: row [rou](a boat) x row [rau] (= argument) minute [minit] (=60 seconds) x minute [majnu:t] (=tiny) HOMOPHONES are words which have the same pronunciation but the different spelling and the different meaning.
