INSTRUCTIONS: The following slides contain questions and answers you should know about this subject. Read the question, review your notes, and write the answer. The correct answer can be found on the next slide. Compare the answers. If they match… great! If they don’t… you have some studying to do before you take the module exam. Answer: Remove all distractions Focus on the task at hand Behave responsibly Be aware of what’s going on around you Notify others around you of potential hazard Report all problems to instructor immediately PROTECT EYES, EARS, LUNGS, SKIN, HANDS, and BACK

Question: What is OSHA and its role in the workplace?

Answer: OSHA is the Occupational Safety and Health Administration. OSHA is responsible for providing information from the US government regarding regulations, enforcement and workers’ rights pertaining to safe working conditions. OSHA also provides training and various publications on topic.

Question: What is the correct method for lifting heavy objects safely?

Answer: PROTECT YOUR BACK! When lifting heavy objects: – Lift close to your body – Feet should be shoulder width apart – Bend your knees and keep your back straight. – Tighten your stomach muscles – Lift with your legs – If you’re straining, get help!

Question: What danger is involved with and precautions must be taken when working with compressed air?

Answer: Highly compressed air can be injected through the skin and into the bloodstream. To prevent injury, compressed air: – Must be regulated to 30 PSI or less – Requires eye protection to be worn. – Must never be pointed at any part of the body. – Canned air must never be concentrated and inhaled.

Answer: Report these things: – Damaged tools – Missing or defective parts from your experimenters or trainers – ALL accidents regardless of the level of injury Any time you feel unsafe, ask your instructor for assistance.
