 Historic buildings differentiate one community from all others  Condition of historic buildings & areas speaks of a community's self-image  Many quality-of-life activities (museums, theaters, libraries) are located in historic buildings and areas  Quality-of-life issues are important factors to Baby Boomers Historic Preservation is a Key Ingredient to Quality of Life

Historic Building Rehabilitation has several advantages over New Construction  Rehabilitation costs are roughly the same as building new  Historic structures were built to last  Historic preservation is “green”  Retain and create affordable housing

Historic Preservation has Tax Savings (Public and Private)  Owners of historic buildings may take advantage of Federal and State Income Tax Credit programs.  25% for Homeowners  40% for Income Producing Properties (20% State & 20% Federal)  Utilizes existing roads and other public improvements & services
