the message 1 peter 1:3-9

We need hope!

Skill Ability Talent Resources HOPE

HOPE IS… Both the Will to achieve a given goal and the THE GOAL IS KEY TO HOPE Both the Will to achieve a given goal and the pathways and strategies necessary to achieve that goal

(Creates will + necessary strategies) Hope can exist if the goal… …is real …is comprehended …is valuable & valued …attainable (Creates will + necessary strategies)

As a Christ follower… What is your big goal? Is it real? Do you comprehend it? Is it valuable / valued by you? Is it attainable?

DO YOU HAVE HOPE?

1 Peter Written to give hope to Christians who were losing it.

1 Peter 1:3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,

1 Peter 1:4 and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade—kept in heaven for you,

1 Peter 1:5 who through faith are shielded by God’s power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time.

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. Why?

God has given us new birth into a living hope and into an inheritance.

God has given us new birth into a living hope and into an inheritance. A NEW FAMILY RELATIONSHIP God has given us new birth into a living hope and into an inheritance.

God has given us new birth into a living hope and into an inheritance. VERSUS DESPAIR or DEAD/DYING HOPE

PAUSE FOR CONFESSION

CONFESSION OF SIN(S) ALL: Merciful Father in heaven, I am altogether sinful from birth. In countless ways I have sinned against you and do not deserve to be called your child.

CONFESSION OF SIN(S) ALL: I have not always kept my eyes on the eternal goal. I have sometimes despaired. I have sometimes harbored dead or dying hope

CONFESSION OF SIN(S) ALL: But trusting in Jesus my Savior, I pray: Have mercy on me according to your unfailing love. Cleanse me from my sin and take away my guilt.

ABSOLUTION (FORGIVENESS) PASTOR: God, our Heavenly Father, has forgiven all your sins. By the perfect life and innocent death of our Lord Jesus Christ, he has removed your guilt forever.

ABSOLUTION (FORGIVENESS) PASTOR: He has given you a living hope. You are his own dear child. May God give you strength to live according to his will. AMEN.

Living hope… …through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.

…into an inheritance… NOT NOW. THEN. New birth - in heaven - imperishable - eternal NOT NOW. THEN.

A better inheritance… It can never perish, spoil or fade Kept in heaven for you Your faith (and therefore your inheritance) is shielded by God’s power.

But what about my current problems, trials and suffering?

1 Peter 1:6 In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials.

1 Peter 1:7 These have come so that your faith—of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire—

1 Peter 1:7 — may be proved genuine and may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed.

1 Peter 1:8 Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpress-ible and glorious joy,

1 Peter 1:9 for you are receiving the goal of your faith, the salvation of your souls.

Rejoice… … in spite of suffering! …because of suffering! (It proves your faith is genuine.) …because you see the true goal – the salvation of your soul.

DO YOU HAVE HOPE?

God has given you the will and the pathways to achieve the heavenly goal! He has given you…

1 peter 1:3-9
