Presentation transcript:

Now that you have researched some sources and learned how to format your paper, you need to know how to create your “Works Cited” page.

 1. Identify the purpose of a Works Cited page.  2. Correctly Cite print and online sources.  Define and utilize a “Header” and a “Hanging Indent”  3. Utilize easybib.com to compile your resources.

 Your Works Cited page is the last page of your research paper.  It is a separate page dedicated to citing your resources that you used for your paper.  It is titled: Works Cited  It is in alphabetical order  It is formatted with a hanging indent (more on that later).

 Author’s last name, first name. Title of the book. Location of Publication: Publisher, year of publication.  Example:  Pullman, Philip. The Golden Compass. New York: Random House, 2005.

 You can usually locate the author’s name and title on the front cover of the book... Author Title

 There will always be a page sharing the publication information at the beginning of the book. Before the story begins, I found the name of the publishing company, the year of publication and the location of publication on this page.

 What if there is more than one copyright/publication date?  What if there are multiple locations of publication?  What if there is no author?

As you know, your page should be double spaced, 12p. Size and Times New Roman. Also, the title, “Works Cited” should be centered at the top of your page. Also, you need to use a special type of formatting called a Hanging Indent.

First, highlight your citations with your mouse. Go to Format Paragraph There will be a drop down box entitled “Special”. Choose “hanging” and click OK.

From there, your Works Cited Page should look like this:

As you can see, MLA requires a Running Header. This is when you have your last name followed by the page number on each page (even the Works Cited page!).

Regardless of the type of Microsoft Word you own, click on: Format Insert Page Number You will choose the page number on the top right hand side.

Once you’ve done this, you have the option to type anything beside the page number. Take this opportunity to type your last name. Remember to capitalize the first letter and do not add any punctuation!

 Log on to easybib.comeasybib.com

Type in the name of the book you wish to cite. Click “select” on the book that you have in your hands (check the year and publisher to be sure)

 Click “Create Citation” Surprise! Look below!

Now you have some neat options. You can click Save for Later. You can click Sharing (this allows you to your teacher or another the citation) or Export of Print (you can automatically export this citation to your research paper.

 1. What is a Works Cited Page?  2. How do you format a proper MLA citation?  3. What is a Header?  4. What is a Hanging Indent?  5. How can Easy Bib help me when I am doing research?
