What are the two common spacing's for Bearers & Joists? 450mm & 600mm centres If a timber bearer has an excessive bow in it, how can this be corrected? You can cripple the bearer by putting a cut into the top of the timber, applying pressure downward and then fixing the joint to hold in place (this must be done centrally over the top of a pier) How should timber joists be fixed to the bearers below?
