PPG SidingSafe™ PPG SidingSafe™ Color Technology Advanced Color Technology Solutions for Vinyl Siding & Architectural Plastics Introducing PPG SidingSafe Color Technology, an exciting new color program for vinyl siding and architectural plastics or composites.

What is PPG SidingSafe™ Color Technology? PPG SidingSafe is an advanced color matching technology that enables customers to choose from virtually any color for use on vinyl, architectural plastic, or composite. SidingSafe formulas are included in your August/September 2011 Datacolor color software upgrade. More specifically, PPG SidingSafe is an advanced color matching technology that enables customers to choose from virtually any color for use on vinyl, architectural plastic, or composite. SidingSafe formulas will be included in your Summer 2011 Datacolor color software upgrades.

Why is PPG SidingSafe™ needed? Historically, vinyl siding could only be painted the same color or lighter as the siding would warp or buckle when painted a color darker than the original siding. This warping was caused by specific darker colorants used when tinting the paint. Historically, vinyl siding could only be painted the same color or lighter as the siding would warp or buckle when painted a color darker than the original siding. So, if you lived in a house with white vinyl siding, you were stuck living in a house with white vinyl siding forever. The warping that occurs on siding when painted a color darker than the original color is caused by specific darker colorants used when tinting the paint.

How it works The same color can often be achieved by using different color formulas or different colorant combinations. PPG SidingSafe provides color formulas without the use of Black (B) or Raw Umber (L), two colorants known to absorb heat and ultimately lead to warping. How it works Here’s an example of Victorian Pewter, 541-5, using the traditional Voice of Color formula and using the SidingSafe Color formula*. Victorian Pewter Traditional Color Formula B-4Y F-8 L-12 Victorian Pewter SidingSafe Color Formula D-29 E-4Y + 20½ F-1Y +33 Here’s an example of Victorian Pewter, 541-5, using the traditional Voice of Color formula and using the SidingSafe Color formula. As you can see, the SidingSafe formula does not contain black or raw umber colorants and, in this example, the color produced is virtually the same as the traditional Voice of Color formula. *Both formulas are for Acri-Shield Exterior Paint, Flat Sheen
