Hot and Cold deserts. What is a hot desert like? A desert is a dry habitat that gets very little rain. They are hot during the day and cool at night.
This is because they would not be able to live in the hot sun and heat. They only come out in the night when it is a little cooler.

HABITATS : THE DESERT 1ST GRADE

DESERT A DESERT is a habitat. The desert is very dry. A desert gets a lot of sunlight.

DESERT The desert gets very little rain. Deserts are very hot during the day. Deserts are cold at night.

Desert Some animals wait until evening or night to come out of their shelters because of the hot temperature during the day. Some others come out during day but have particular ways to move under the hot sun, like the “sand vipers” (snakes). They move by making a “S” on the sand. These swift movements allow it to move while barely touching the hot sand.

DESERT Swift “S” movements allow the Sand Viper move during the hot day in the desert.

DESERT The SAHARA DESERT is the largest desert in the world. S A H A R A D E S E R T

DESERT Many animals and plants live in the desert. Example: Camel Cactus

DESERT If there is little water in the desert how can the camel and the cactus get water? Answer: Camels store water in their humps. Cactuses store water in their stems. Humps Stem

Desert Here are some other desert animals. Lizard Snake Scorpion

Black Widow Spider Ostrich
