4,4 What is Songhai? In the 1500’s this empire took over Timbuktu and the Berbers’ salt mines and control of the trade on the Niger River. They became the largest empire in West Africa.

1,5 What is traditional African religion? African people in the countryside usually practice this type of religion.

5,6 What were the Bantu? These were fishing groups that migrated throughout Africa around 3000 BC.

3,7 Who is Queen Nzinga? This queen battled the Portuguese slave traders.

4,7 Who are the Portuguese? These people were the first to enslave Africans and take them to other places.
