Alexandr Pushkin and Natalie Goncharova officially announced their engagement on 6 th May, On August 31, Pushkin left Moscow for Boldino to take possession of the nearby village Kistenevo, which was allocated to him on the occasion by the marriage of his father.

It was an one-story rustic grandfather's house for a small fence, near a patrimonial office, a church and a long village with huts, thatched.

A. Pushkin came to Boldino on 3 rd September, hoping that month to cope with things. At first, he was afraid that the best time to work (usually he wrote in autumn) had to be completed hassle of introduction to the possession and a hock Kisteneva. But because of the cholera, he stayed in to Boldino for 3 months.

Autumn 1830, it was time for Pushkin to take stock. When he wrote his letter to parents notifying them of the engagement, he mentioned that in his life, a new period began. Changes in his personal life coincided with the beginning of a new stage of literary activity.

His first poem in Boldino “The Demons". During autumn months in Boldino, he wrote such works as " The Elegies", " The Mortician", " The Station caretaker", " The Young lady- farmer", " The Lodge in Kolomna", " The Shot", “A Snow- storm", " The Stingy knight" "Mozart and Salieri", "Onegin’s traveling", "The stony guest", " The Feast in time of plague".

The theme of these works is exceptionally diverse. But easy to spot that when a person begins theme undertaker and ends theme of the plague. It is not far from the thought of death. This becomes clear when we remember that the brutal cholera swept the country.

Here in Boldino the poet said, goodbye to his past, which occurred in front of him with painful clarity. They were such the poems as "Elegy", "Farewell", "Spell", " For banks of far Motherland…", "I drink to the health of Mary…" and, finally, the poem “The Small house in Kolomna" quite excellent in tone of these poems.

In that autumn Pushkin finished "Eugene Onegin". His companion of many years of life, he worked on this novel 7 years 4 months 17 days! This novel was the first work in the spirit of true realism - not only here, but throughout the whole of Western Europe. When A. Pushkin began to write "Eugene Onegin" he had grave doubts that it could be printed. And indeed, the first chapter was published only in 1825.

Pushkin mentioned finishing time on each of the stories in autographs: on 9 th September, “The mortician" was completed, on 14 th September - “The Station caretaker", on 20 th September - “The Young lady-farmer", on 14 th October - “The Shot" on 20 th October - “A Snow-storm".

The book was published in October 1831 under the title “The stories of late Ivana Petrovicha Belkina, published by A. P. " neither readers not critics liked that books.

"Belkin’s stories" completed this stage and defined the future direction of Pushkin's work: in the following years he turned mainly to prose.

In early October Pushkin tried to leave Boldino, but he could not overcome the quarantine cordon. On 5 th December, 1830 Pushkin came back after the third attempt in Moscow, still surrounded by a quarantine.

On 9 th December, Pushkin wrote a letter to Pletnev, in which pointed that he wrote in autumn In Boldino he finished the last two chapters of “Eugene Onegin" From small tragedies he singled out: “The Stingy Knight", " Mozart and Salieri", “The Feast in time of plague", and " Don Juan".

He was the author of nearly 30 small poems. He also did not forget to specify in writing the most famous of his prose works. It is "Belkin’s stories".

The letter itself looked like this: « To tell you (with a secret) that I wrote in Boldino, as had long been written. Here's that I brought here : 2 last chapters of Onegin, 8th and 9th, already to print. The story is written in octaves (400 verses), which will issue Anonyme. A few dramatic scenes, or small tragedies, namely: “The Stingy knight" " Mozart and Salieri", “The Feast in time of plague" and " Don Juan". Moreover wrote about 30 small poems. Okay? Not all: (very secret) I have written 5 prose novellas from which Baratynskiy “is neighing” and “is beating” - and which is also printed Anonyme.»
