Stage 1: Initial proposal (2009) sketches congregational board design costs

Design: 40 x 180Wp modules Coverage 53.5 m 2 Capacity 7.2 kWp Predicted annual output: 5,575 kWh Cost £31K (+scaffolding, electrical connection) predicted saving £2.5K per annum payback time c12 years

Design:

inverter (in roof space) direct connection to existing supply generation meter (with display) no moving parts = minimal maintenance

Stage 2: Permissions (2010) congregational board planning permission listed building general trustees

Stage 3: Funding (2010) LCBP2e 50% X E-on Source Fund X Scottish Power Green Energy Fund X EDF Green Fund £34K

Stage 4: Decision (Dec 2010) LCBP2e 50% loan from General Trustees £5,700 from own funds

Installation (Feb 2011)

complete!

Was it worth it?

after 8 months ….

Financially: heading towards c7000 Units per annum = £3530 from FiTs + £105 from export + ?£500 reduced bills = £4000+ per annum benefit

Environmentally: > 3 tonnes CO 2 per annum less If all 2000 churches …. …. 6 kilo tonnes saving!

a success!  significant financial benefit  significant environmental benefit  a visual sign to our community  encouraging others  members houses  manses  community buildings
