W ATER P OLLUTION What is water pollution ? Water pollution is the introduction of chemical, biological and physical matter into large bodies of water, such as lakes and seas that decreases the quality of life that lives in it and consumes it. What are the sources of water pollution? Some of the main contributors to water pollution are: Factories Refineries Waste treatment facilities Mining Pesticides, herbicides and fertilizers Human sewage Oil spills Failing septic systems Soap from washing your car Oil and antifreeze leaking from cars Household chemicals Animal waste

W ATER P OLLUTION

A IR P OLLUTION What is Air pollution ? Air pollution is the exposure of hazardous substances into the atmosphere that danger human life and other living things. What are the sources of air pollution? Some of the main contributors to air pollution are: Automobile emissions Tobacco smoke Combustion of coal Acid rain Noise pollution from cars and construction Power plants Manufacturing buildings Large ships Paint fumes Aerosol sprays Wildfires Nuclear weapons

A IR P OLLUTION

L AND POLLUTION What is land pollution ? Land pollution is pollution of the Earth’s natural land surface by industrial, commercial, domestic and agricultural activities. What are the sources of land pollution? Some of the main contributors to land pollution are: Chemical and nuclear plants Industrial factories Oil refineries Human sewage Oil and antifreeze leaking from cars Mining Littering Overcrowded landfills Deforestation Construction debris

L AND P OLLUTION

N OISE P OLLUTION What is Noise pollution ? Noise pollution is excessive, displeasing human, animal, or machine-created environmental noise that disrupts the activity or balance of human or animal life. Examples of noise pollution Honking cars Traffic, cars, trucks Loud music Leaf blowers, lawn mowers, power drills, construction Running water (although this isn't always a bad one!) Voices, people, yelling Animals Factories, generators, stores

N OISE P OLLUTION

L IGHT P OLLUTION What is light Pollution ? The alteration of the amount of natural light in the night environment due to the introduction of artificial light is a true pollution Examples of light pollution artificial light such as Street lighting Light from Commercial buildings Planes City lighting Car lights

L IGHT P OLLUTION

E FFLUENT P OLLUTION What is effluent pollution? Liquid waste flowing out of a factory, farm, commercial buildings, or a household into a water body such as a river, lake, or lagoon, or a sewer system or reservoir. Examples of effluent pollution Sewage from Animals and humans
