The book “Alice in Wonderland” is not only remarkable for its narration, which is vivid, informative and interesting. One of the most important and interesting ideas in it is the development of the language. It can be see in the harmony of the narration and the usage of different stylistic devices by the author. The book is the storehouse of knowledge for linguists.

To find some examples of lexical stylistic devices in the book “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland” as our proof to the usefulness of the book for linguists.

Epithet – emotionally coloured and individual attitude of the author. Our family always HATED cats: nasty, low, vulgar things! They were indeed a queer-looking party that assembled on the bank--the birds with draggled feathers, the animals with their fur clinging close to them, and all dripping wet, cross, and uncomfortable. `Oh, you foolish Alice!' she answered herself. `How can you learn lessons in here? Why, there's hardly room for YOU, and no room at all for any lesson-books!'

Metaphor – transference of meaning on the basis of similarity or association Alice started to her feet, for it flashed across her mind that she had never before seen a rabbit with either a waistcoat-pocket, or a watch to take out of it, and burning with curiosity, she ran across the field after it, and fortunately was just in time to see it pop down a large rabbit-hole under the hedge.

Metonymy – transference of meaning on the basis of contiguity. Suddenly she came upon a little three-legged table, all made of solid glass; there was nothing on it except a tiny golden key, and Alice's first thought was that it might belong to one of the doors of the hall; but, alas! … this time she found a little bottle on it, (`which certainly was not here before,' said Alice,) and round the neck of the bottle was a paper label, with the words `DRINK ME' beautifully printed on it in large letters.

Pun – the interaction of two well-known meanings within the same context. `Mine is a long and a sad tale!' said the Mouse, turning to Alice, and sighing. `It IS a long tail, certainly,' said Alice, looking down with wonder at the Mouse's tail; `but why do you call it sad?' And she kept on puzzling about it while the Mouse was speaking, so that her idea of the tale was something like this:… `I had NOT!' cried the Mouse, sharply and very angrily. `A knot!' said Alice, always ready to make herself useful, and looking anxiously about her. `Oh, do let me help to undo it!

Pun – the interaction of two well-known meanings within the same context. "There is the tree in the middle", said the Rose. "What else is it good for?" "And what could it do, if any danger came?" Alice asked. "It could bark", said the Rose. "It says 'Bough-wough'", cried a Daisy. "That's why its branches are called boughs"

Simile – brings into contact with other object belonging to different class of things There was not a moment to be lost: away went Alice like the wind, and was just in time to hear it say, as it turned a corner, `Oh my ears and whiskers, how late it's getting!‘ The Hatter opened his eyes very wide on hearing this; but all he SAID was, `Why is a raven like a writing-desk?'

In conclusion we ma say that the book gives us an opportunity not only admire the vivid plot of the story, but also see the examples of different stylistic devices, which make the language more impressive. Besides, the book can be rather interesting in the sphere of translation theory.
