How to make a Miners Lantern

Developed as part of… SURVIVNG STAVELEY

What you will need… 2 litre pop bottle Cardboard (e.g. cereal packet) Kitchen Foil Tape Wire LED Light And to draw around… A Saucer 2p Coin

Cut a hole large enough to fit your LED light through.

Cover all 4 sticks with foil

Spread the sticks equally around the bottle and secure using tape

Cut cardboard wide enough to cover ½ the bottle and long enough to wrap around

Use a 2p coin to draw four semi- circles along one side. Cut them out.

Cover the cardboard in foil. Secure with tape where needed.

With the cut outs to the top tape the card to the bottle, wrap & stick.

Find a plate a bit bigger than your bottle

Draw around it on cardboard and cut it out

Cover with foil and tape securely to bottom of bottle

Cut a piece of cardboard 2” deep and long enough to wrap around the bottle

Cover with foil. Tape around bottom

Wrap wire around the neck and make a loop. Secure with plenty of tape

Cut out a second circle. From the centre to the edge cut along the dotted line

Make a slight cone and secure with tape

Flatten the cone and cut off the nose

Cover the lid in foil and remake the hole
