Tom Yaxley gave an update for the Football Pool: 5th last week. We were 7th out of 8 clubs.

Program – District Governor Lion Rodney Ryan said that there was a meeting in Paris on the 27th. The Convention will be Dec 7-8th in Mattoon.

He gave out Lions Chevrons: Rex Hess 10 years; Paul Hendren 40 years;

Sam McGrew 20 years; Rich King 35 years;

Byron Balbach 25 years.

Ted Gonsiorowski introduced our speaker, State Trooper Tracy Lillard. Tracy lives in Villa Grove and is married to a state trooper. They have 3 children. She wanted to be a police officer since she was in the 5th grade.

There are 40,000 car fatalities per year nationwide. She handled 12 fatal car accidents last year.

The fastest speeder she ever caught was going 144 mph and she had to pull the person out of the car.

The fastest speed she knows about was a motorcycle going 166 mph.

What is interesting is that usually they make drug busts because of stupid things drivers do, like no turn signal.

The “Fatal Four”: 1-Speeding 2-DUI 3-not wearing seat belt 4-distractions such as cell phones, grooming, reading, nursing baby, etc.

She said she was more scared of traffic than getting shot at.

She also explained Scott’s Law—if you see stationary police or emergency vehicles on the side of road, you are required to move to the left and slow down.

In construction zones it is illegal to use cell phones or speed and the tickets are very expensive.

She said when a deer runs in front of your car, it is best to simply hit the deer.

Someone asked if she had ever been bribed. She said she pulled over a woman who assumed she was a male trooper because she couldn't see her. The woman started putting on lipstick and making her dress look provocative, and when Trooper Lillard got to the car window, she said, “That doesn't work on me, cupcakes.”

Tail Twister – Tom Yaxley asked Rich King to carry the bucket and fined him for bad directions;

Byron Balbach for having won the lottery;

Ted Gonsiorowski for something;
