Test Review Power Point Rite of Passage Test Review Power Point To do well with this review you must have your articles and Cornell Notes from class. If you have your notes and articles you should do very well on this review and therefore be prepared for the test.

What is the difference between being independent and interdependent? Question #1 What is the difference between being independent and interdependent? If you are not sure what either word means, refer to the first paragraph of Rituals in native cultures. If that does not help then off to the dictionary!! +3 bonus points if you know the answer without the dictionary.

What would happen to those who did not go through the Rite of Passage? Question #2 What would happen to those who did not go through the Rite of Passage? Give yourself 4 bonus points if you knew the answer without looking at your notes!

What is the most important ritual of native cultures? Question #3 What is the most important ritual of native cultures? Give yourself 3 bonus points if you know this without looking. If you did not know the answer…where have you been for the last two weeks? The answer is on page 3 of the article I gave you in class.

What are two ways tribes would act out the metaphorical death? Question #4 What are two ways tribes would act out the metaphorical death? Think scary. If you are not sure then read paragraph 3 in the section titled The Rite of Passage. 7 bonus points if you knew both ways without using your notes.

According to the article, what is a ritual? Question #5 According to the article, what is a ritual? Give yourself 2 bonus points if you knew the answer without looking at your notes!

What are the three stages to the Rite of Passage? Question #6 What are the three stages to the Rite of Passage? No bonus points here…you know the answer without even looking!

What are some examples of common rituals that we use in life? Question #7 What are some examples of common rituals that we use in life? Give yourself 1 bonus point for every common ritual you can name. If you could not name any re-read the second paragraph of the section title Ritual in our culture.

From your Cornell Notes, rituals prepare us for? Question #8 From your Cornell Notes, rituals prepare us for? Here is a clue, it starts with the letter T and has fourteen letters (it is also the second step of the Rites of Passage)…minus 8 bonus points if you have to look this up!

What are the consequences of not having a Rite of Passage? Question #9 What are the consequences of not having a Rite of Passage? Give yourself 2 bonus points if you knew the answer without looking at your notes!

Why does the transformation stage often occur in a hut or a cave? Question #10 Why does the transformation stage often occur in a hut or a cave? Ooooh…tough one. 10 bonus points if you know the answer without even looking at your notes!

Question #11 To truly work, a Rite of Passage has to have three elements. (This is not separation, transformation and return) What are they? Give yourself 1 bonus point for each one you can name. If you cannot name any then you need to read the third paragraph in the section The Rite of Passage.

Question #12 According to the article on the orange paper, what does the cut represent during the ritual scarring phase? We saw this example in The Air Up There, give yourself 3 bonus points if you knew the answer without looking.

A couple of more things before you go… Add up all of your bonus points. If you have more than 20 points then you have done a good job of reviewing your notes and reading the articles Go back and review the slides where you needed your notes to find the answer. Re-read the articles one last time and mark sections you feel are important and will probably be on the test. If you have read the articles, did well on this review and get a good nights sleep, you will have no problems on the test tomorrow!
