Run Plan Document E04-007: Threshold Pion Production

Tuesday Night Shift Plan Set Left HRS For Elastics (969.3 MeV, 35.5 degrees) –Take Elastic Run and Check T3 vs T7 Rates –Insert Sieve –Cycle Q2 & Q3 to 1400A –Take Sieve Run (at least 250k events) Turn On BigBite dE/E Planes (MWDC should be off) With BigBite Still At 390A Use Carbon –Calibrate dE/E HV (punch-through around 350MeV/c) –Find Threshold Settings Well Above Min. Ionizing Look for Coincs Between BigBite (E23) and HRS With Hydrogen Try To See 700 MeV/c Protons –This should be the lower limit of thresholds

Ionizing Look for Coincs Between BigBite (E23) and HRS With Hydrogen Try To See 700 MeV/c Protons –This should be the lower limit of thresholds

BigBite Helium Bag Rework Make Sure Detector Package Does Not Move Mark Current Magnet Position Move Magnet Back Approx. 12 inches –watch for collision between magnet and chamber 1 Remove Present Balloon Drill and Tap Two Holes For 1/4” Swaglock Side Of Flangle –Approx. 1” From Top and 1” From Bottom At Sieve Depth Install Gas Connections Check Bottom Sieve Seal For Foreign Objects –Look For Toothpick Like Item At Back Add Vacuum Grease To Bottom Seal Richard Covers Flangle Hole With Balloon Piece Flow Gas (Bottom In and Top Out) Install New Balloon In BigBite Move BigBite Back To Original Position Inflate New Balloon (do not flow to it, will check size tomorrow)

Thursday Night Shift Plan Check Beam When It Return Find Tracks In BigBite with 1400V Chamber & 5V Threshold –T3 with simple cuts will put a proton AFTER Elastic Track Found –Do Chamber HV and Threshold Scan AFTER HV and Threshold Setting Found –Put In HRS Sieve, 390A –Elastic Hydrogen Data Sieve In (keep low current) at least 250k T3 –Keep HRS Sieve In, 0A –Repeat Elastic Hydrogen Data (same current) at least 250k events T3 –Remove HRS Sieve –Elastic Hydrogen Data at least 1M events T3 –BigBite To 360A –Repeat Hydrogen Data at least 1M events T3 –Reduce Current By 50% And Take Another 1M events

During MorningPass Change Will Install BigBite Sieve and Take Optics Data PLEASE CHECK ALL RUNS! PLEASE COMPLETE SHIFT CHECK LIST
