Challenge the future Delft University of Technology Project Waalbrug Improving transport accessibility in Nijmegen TIL5050 – Bernat Goni, Vikash Mohan, Arjen van Diepen, Tim van Leeuwen 6 April 2010 Meeting week 10

Improving transport accessibility in Nijmegen Subareas as defined in Nijmegen Parking Balance Areas of interest for this research: 2,4 & 6 because those affect users of the Waalbrug route the most A3: Parking Policy

Improving transport accessibility in Nijmegen A3: Parking Policy

Improving transport accessibility in Nijmegen A3: Parking Policy Zone 4 is main destination for most people (both home/work and visitors). Shortage of parking supply in this zone is compensated by adjacent zones 2 and 6. Zones have different parking space characteristics (long stay / short stay / tariffs / route indications / names) resulting from the current parking policy.

Improving transport accessibility in Nijmegen Current Policy Parking as much as possible on edge of the city center (outside the Singels) and on P+R Parking in the city center for (ultra) short periods (progressive tariffs on the streets) and in parking garages (mainly designed for short stay). Majority of parking garages owned and operated by municipality of Nijmegen New parking facilities planned on Western side of the city Next slide: Map of parking facilities A3: Parking Policy

Improving transport accessibility in Nijmegen A3: Parking Policy

Improving transport accessibility in Nijmegen Tariffs Policy A3: Parking Policy

Improving transport accessibility in Nijmegen Intensities on Singels (evening peak 2020) A3: Parking Policy

Improving transport accessibility in Nijmegen Parking policy direction Goal: Accommodate parking based on origin Facilitate people from the north in parking spaces in zone 2 Facilitate people from the south in parking spaces in zone 6 A3: Parking Policy

Improving transport accessibility in Nijmegen Level day tariffs in Zone 2 and 6 Daycard 9€ in Eiermarkt garage (2) and Julianaplein / Wedren (6) Facilitate short stay parking in zone 6: give opportunity for hourly based parking on Wedren/Julianaplein Signs/Panels Include Wedren / Julianaplein in PRIS  Rename to Centrum Zuid New panels on Prins Bernhardstraat directing people to Wedren/Julianaplein Panels before Waalbrug and on Nieuwe Ubbergseweg directing people to Zone 2 A3: Parking Policy

Improving transport accessibility in Nijmegen

Improving transport accessibility in Nijmegen Possible parking policy direction Effects (qualitative) Accessibility Reduced traffic intensities on Singels (based on rough estimations) Quicker access to city center for Waalbrug users (more reliable route) Environment Improved air quality due to less traffic on Singels Less noise on the Singels A3: Parking Policy
