Listening Comprehension Kontakte, Seite 95,“Hobbies”

Goal 0 By listening, students should be able to ask for hobbies, identify popular activities and learn about cultural aspects of social networks and its use in Germany.

Step 1: Setting a Context 0 The teacher brings a Germany jersey to class and explains ‘Ich spiele gerne Fußball. Mein Hobby ist Fußball spielen.’. 0 The teacher asks the students what they like to do. Students then ask each other about their hobbies using ‘Was machst du gern?’.

Step 2: Pre-Listening 0 The teacher asks the students about their expectations. 0 Students come to the front and write their favorite activities on the board (Wortigel). Here, the teacher provides different categories such as ‘Sport’, ‘Soziale Netzwerke’, and ‘Elektronische Geräte’.  This helps students sort their activities.

Step 3: Listening 0 The teacher plays the listening part 3 times. After each time, the students are supposed to do a listening task.

Task 1: Recognition 0 Students are supposed to tick off the activities that they hear: PolitikRing ComputerReligion SportSchule FußballSchmuck Facebookschön HandyStereo-Anlage

Task 2: Recognition 0 Students are supposed to determine who did what:

Task 3: Fill in the Gap 0 Students are supposed to fill in the gap after listening closely to what was said about Facebook: Q: Bist du bei Facebook oder einem anderen sozialen Netzwerk? A: Ja, ich bin bei ________. Q: Was machst du damit? A: Ich pflege _________. Q: Und was hältst du davon? A: Ich finde das eigentlich _______, aber teilweise bin ich auch _______.

Step 4: Post-Listening 0 Students are supposed to get together with a partner and talk about their own hobbies and activities, using the questions “Was machst du gern?” and “Was für Hobbys hast du?”. 0 The teacher writes the questions on the board.

Step 5: Homework and Reflection 0 Students are supposed to write 4 sentences to their own favorite activities. 0 Furthermore, they are asked to evaluate the listening activity by writing 1 or 2 sentences to what was good and what was bad (in English).
