Today we will identify and represent negative numbers on a number line Identify = point out Represent = stand for Negative number=any number less than zero. Number line= line in which indicate the sequence of numbers

Number Line! Number lines are used for many things! A few of the uses of number lines are to: Add Subtract 5 + 3 = 8 6 - 5 = 1

Some examples are: -7, -8, -8, -9, -19, -1,000,000 etc. negative Numbers All numbers less than zero. These numbers will ALWAYS have a negative sign. Some examples are: -7, -8, -8, -9, -19, -1,000,000 etc. Non-examples are: +1, +3, 1,000,023

Number line a number line is a picture of a straight line on which every point corresponds to a real number and every real number to a point.

Let’s practice identifying negative integers! Steps: Look at the point Look at the point above the number line Where is it located? Write that number down! Where is point A located? That’s right! -7 A .

Let’s practice identifying negative integers! Steps: Look at the point Look at the point above the number line Where is it located? Write that number down! Where is point x located? That’s right! -2 x .

Let’s practice identifying negative integers! Steps: Look at the point Look at the point above the number line Where is it located? Write that number down! Where is point t located? That’s right! 0 t .

Now Let’s practice representing negative integers on a number line! Steps: Look at the number you are going to represent Look at the number line and think where it is going to be placed Represent on the number line above the number Represent point x on the number line Draw and label it on the number line at -5 X .

Now Let’s practice representing negative integers on a number line! Steps: Look at the number you are going to represent Look at the number line and think where it is going to be placed Represent on the number line above the number Represent point a on the number line Draw and label it on the number line at -13 a .

Now Let’s practice representing negative integers on a number line! Steps: Look at the number you are going to represent Look at the number line and think where it is going to be placed Represent on the number line above the number Represent point b on the number line Draw and label it on the number line at 0 b .

Let’s see what we’ve learned! What is a number line? What are negative integers? -8 -118
