Who is this? Old Testament Prophecies New Testament fulfillments.

Can you predict the weather a day ahead? God can make such predictions with total accuracy? Prophet must be totally accurate or die. Only God could predict because: Who are these verses talking about?

I.Promised redeemer Genesis 3:15 (ESV) I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring; he shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel.” Matthew 1:18–23 (ESV) — 18 Now the birth of Jesus Christ took place in this way. When his mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph, before they came together she was found to be with child from the Holy Spirit. 19 And her husband Joseph, being a just man and unwilling to put her to shame, resolved to divorce her quietly. 20 But as he considered these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary as your wife, for that which is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. 21 She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.” 22 All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had spoken by the prophet: 23 “Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel” (which means, God with us).

II. Promised through the Seed of Abraham Genesis 22:18 (ESV) and in your offspring shall all the nations of the earth be blessed, because you have obeyed my voice.” Matthew 1:1 (ESV) The book of the genealogy of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham.

III. Promised Through Isaac Genesis 21:12 (ESV) But God said to Abraham, “Be not displeased because of the boy and because of your slave woman. Whatever Sarah says to you, do as she tells you, for through Isaac shall your offspring be named. Luke 3:34 (ESV) the son of Jacob, the son of Isaac, the son of Abraham, the son of Terah, the son of Nahor,

IV. Out of the Tribe of Judah Micah 5:2 (ESV) But you, O Bethlehem Ephrathah, who are too little to be among the clans of Judah, from you shall come forth for me one who is to be ruler in Israel, whose coming forth is from of old, from ancient days. Matthew 2:6 (ESV) “ ‘And you, O Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; for from you shall come a ruler who will shepherd my people Israel.’ ”

V. Born in the Family of Jesse Isaiah 11:1 (ESV) There shall come forth a shoot from the stump of Jesse, and a branch from his roots shall bear fruit. Luke 3:32 (ESV) the son of Jesse, the son of Obed, the son of Boaz, the son of Sala, the son of Nahshon,

VI. Born in the House of David (King) Jeremiah 23:5–6 (ESV) — 5 “Behold, the days are coming, declares the L ORD, when I will raise up for David a righteous Branch, and he shall reign as king and deal wisely, and shall execute justice and righteousness in the land. 6 In his days Judah will be saved, and Israel will dwell securely. And this is the name by which he will be called: ‘The L ORD is our righteousness.’ Luke 3:31 (ESV) the son of Melea, the son of Menna, the son of Mattatha, the son of Nathan, the son of David,

VII. Born in Bethlehem Micah 5:2 (ESV) But you, O Bethlehem Ephrathah, who are too little to be among the clans of Judah, from you shall come forth for me one who is to be ruler in Israel, whose coming forth is from of old, from ancient days. Luke 2:4–7 (ESV) — 4 And Joseph also went up from Galilee, from the town of Nazareth, to Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David, 5 to be registered with Mary, his betrothed, who was with child. 6 And while they were there, the time came for her to give birth. 7 And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in swaddling cloths and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn.

VII. Born of a virgin Isaiah 7:14 (ESV) Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel. Matthew 1:18 (ESV) Now the birth of Jesus Christ took place in this way. When his mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph, before they came together she was found to be with child from the Holy Spirit. Matthew 1:21–23 (ESV) — 21 She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.” 22 All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had spoken by the prophet: 23 “Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel” (which means, God with us).

IX. Worshipped and Presented gifts by Kings Psalm 72:10 (ESV) May the kings of Tarshish and of the coastlands render him tribute; may the kings of Sheba and Seba bring gifts! Matthew 2:11 (ESV) And going into the house they saw the child with Mary his mother, and they fell down and worshiped him. Then, opening their treasures, they offered him gifts, gold and frankincense and myrrh.

X. Worshipped by Shepherds Psalm 72:9 (ESV) May desert tribes bow down before him, and his enemies lick the dust! Luke 2:8–20 (ESV) …15 When the angels went away from them into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let us go over to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has made known to us.” 16 And they went with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby lying in a manger. 17 And when they saw it, they made known the saying that had been told them concerning this child. 18 And all who heard it wondered at what the shepherds told them. 19 But Mary treasured up all these things, pondering them in her heart. 20 And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen, as it had been told them.

XI. Weeping for the Children Jeremiah 31:15 (ESV) Thus says the L ORD : “A voice is heard in Ramah, lamentation and bitter weeping. Rachel is weeping for her children; she refuses to be comforted for her children, because they are no more.” Matthew 2:16 (ESV) Then Herod, when he saw that he had been tricked by the wise men, became furious, and he sent and killed all the male children in Bethlehem and in all that region who were two years old or under, according to the time that he had ascertained from the wise men.

XII. Flight to Egypt Hosea 11:1 (ESV) When Israel was a child, I loved him, and out of Egypt I called my son. Matthew 2:13–14 (ESV) — 13 Now when they had departed, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and said, “Rise, take the child and his mother, and flee to Egypt, and remain there until I tell you, for Herod is about to search for the child, to destroy him.” 14 And he rose and took the child and his mother by night and departed to Egypt

XIII. He will be called Lord Psalm 110:1 (ESV) The L ORD says to my Lord: “Sit at my right hand, until I make your enemies your footstool.” Luke 2:11 (ESV) For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.

XIV. He is the Son of God Psalm 2:7 (ESV) I will tell of the decree: The L ORD said to me, “You are my Son; today I have begotten you. Luke 3:22 (ESV) and the Holy Spirit descended on him in bodily form, like a dove; and a voice came from heaven, “You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased.”

XV. A descendant of Abraham Prophecy – Genesis 12:1–3 (ESV) — 1 Now the L ORD said to Abram, “Go from your country and your kindred and your father’s house to the land that I will show you. 2 And I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing. 3 I will bless those who bless you, and him who dishonors you I will curse, and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.” Fulfillment – Matthew 1:1 (ESV) The book of the genealogy of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham.

XVII Of the house of David Prophecy – 2 Samuel 7:12–16 (ESV) —12 When your days are fulfilled and you lie down with your fathers, I will raise up your offspring after you, who shall come from your body, and I will establish his kingdom. 13 He shall build a house for my name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever. 14 I will be to him a father, and he shall be to me a son. When he commits iniquity, I will discipline him with the rod of men, with the stripes of the sons of men, 15 but my steadfast love will not depart from him, as I took it from Saul, whom I put away from before you. 16 And your house and your kingdom shall be made sure forever before me. Your throne shall be established forever.’ ” Fulfillment – “A record of the genealogy of Jesus Christ the son of David, the son of Abraham” (Matthew 1:1).

XVIII. Anointed by the Holy Spirit Prophecy – “The Spirit of the LORD will rest on him—the Spirit of wisdom and of understanding, the Spirit of counsel and of power, the Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD (Isaiah 11:2). Fulfillment – “As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and lighting on him. And a voice from heaven said, ‘This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.’” (Matthew 3:16-17).
