Science Year 5

THEME: INVESTIGATING THE EARTH AND THE UNIVERSE LEARNING AREA: Investigating the earth and the Universe LEARNING OBJECTIVES: 2.1 Understanding the movements of the Earth, the Moon and The Sun. 2.2 Understanding the occurrence of Day and Night

The Earth The Moon The Sun

Rotation And The Movement Of The Earth

Moves around the sun WEST EAST Rotates on its axis

* Earth rotates on it axis from west to east * The rotation of the earth is tilted at an angle * It Takes 24 hours or one day to complete one rotation * We cannot feel the rotation of the earth because the earth is very big compare to us

* The rotation of the earth on its axis cause : a) the occurrence of day and night b) the sun rises in the east and sets in the west

* As the earth rotates on its axis, it is also moving around the sun * It moves around the sun from west to east * The earth takes about 365¼ days to complete one round in one orbit

Rotates from west to east on its axis Moves round the earth

ROTATION AND MOVEMENT OF THE MOON * The moon also rotates on its own axis * As the moon rotates on its axis it is also moving around the earth * The moon moves around the earth from west to east * The moon takes about 271/3 days to move around the earth

Understanding occurrence of EARTH FACES THE SUN EARTH FACING AWAY FROM THE SUN DUE TO ROTATION OF EARTH ON ITS AXIS Night Day and Night Day Understanding occurrence of Day and Night Light Light Light Light NIGHT DAY
