What is disaster ?

Type of disaster Electricity Failure Internet Failure Hardware & Software/Infrastructure Issues Lower Impact Fire Earthquake Tsunami Typhoon Medium Impact Earthquake Tsunami Flood Typhoon Data lost High Impact  There are two type of Disasters:  Natural Disaster  Human Disaster

Goal:  To prepare ahead before disaster happen.  Immediately restore operations.  Cost efficiency and effectiveness.  To be awareness / First aid kits.  Easy collaboration with another agencies.  Simulate or Drill.  Connectivity redundancy.  Data redundancy.  Electricity redundancy.  Identify key staff.  Hot site. What is recovery plan ?

Type of recovery plan  Connectivity:  At least two LAN lines install in one office.  At least one mobile Sat phone is activated.  At least one VHF Radio is activated with UN or Government Repeater.  Require monthly simulate or drill.  Password Security:  At least two authorize persons responsible.  At least keep password in electronic and paper.  Password policy should be in place.  Require quarterly drill.

Type of recovery plan  Data security backup and restore:  Basic data security policy should be in place.  At least two data storages per office.  At least basic one offsite storage per office.  Require simulate or drill every Friday.  Electricity Redundancy:  At least one small generator standby per office.  Possible Solar Penal power backup at main office.  Require regular monthly maintenance.

Type of recovery plan  Key staff:  One person from management team.  One person from IT department.  One person from finance department.  One person from administrative department.  One security focus point.  One person from logistic department.  Quarterly require simulation.  Hot Site:  Identify one location per office.  Require electricity power backup standby.  Quarterly require simulation.
