Kick-off

Overview of Match Day Transport issues  Fan Park attendance low except when National team played  Spectators start arriving 4 hours before kick-off  Critical period is after the Match / crowd management  Language remains an issue: use colour coding  Once inside the Stadium Precinct, the pedestrian signage became irrelevant People tend to follow the masses

Overview of Match Day Transport issues  Relationships between the Traffic Police, Police and Transport Team very important  Website / Communication for spectators important  National consistency: signage, travel information, special travel group arrangement (STGs), general transport operations  Confed Cup a useful learning experience for host country and cities

 Signed contracts with the bus and taxi industries, including penalties, resulted in a quality, professional fleet that went the extra mile in delivery the service with no incidents.  All members of the transport management team were familiar with the plans and worked well as a team.  Radios provided in easy communication and rapid resolution of issues.  Cooperation and communication between Law Enforcement Agencies and the transport team resulted in a successful implementation of the project. Key Success Factors

 Budgets and finances need to be secured well in advance in order to procure items and pay service providers.  Tenders and procurement of service providers need to be concluded well in advance of the event in order to ensure supply and delivery of items and services.  Communication between the various entities (MATCH, LOC, OC, National Government) needs to be improved.  Vehicular signage worked well, but pedestrian wayfinding inside Stadium Precinct could have been done differently What could have been done differently

ITS Integration

ITS Project Scope  Improve traffic signal control and management  Detailed design of traffic signal settings and synchronisation of signals  Procure new controllers and upgrade old controllers  Install communication to link to central control  SARTSM Requirements  Expand CCTV network & Upgrade Control Room

To achieve optimal synchronisation for the Transport Operational Plan (TOP) routes, 80 new controllers were installed, with 320 new traffic signal timing plans. “This included the morning peak, off- peak, afternoon peak and night plans.” Optimisation of Traffic Signals

Automotor Instation

Event Timing Plans

Optimisation of Traffic Signals

Queue NO Queues

Optimisation and Synchronisation Benefits As part of the Grobler Street Study, the following benefits were achieved by implementing the optimised traffic signal timing plans and synchronisation of intersections on the arterial (16 Intersections) %CH R 11, (Rand / day) Operating Cost %CH (Litre/day) Fuel Consumption %CH (kg/day) Carbon Dioxide

Optic Fibre and CCTV Network - 20km of Optic Fibre cables have been installed as part of the project. - Approx 10km in an Aerial position and 10km trenched and sleeved of the CCTV Cameras have been connected to the Optic Fibre network. - 9 of the CCTV Cameras wirelessly connected to the Control Centre via repeater sites.
