ARG’s TOP 15 TECH TIPS FOR 2015 ARG’s Top 15 Tech Tips For 2015 | September 2014

TIP #9 Redundant Bandwidth: Failover or Failure Erica Lord Director, Business Development ARG’s Top 15 Tech Tips For 2015 | September 2014

15 minutes can save your job and company from mayhem. TIP #9

Redundant Bandwidth: Failover or Failure Insurance is NOT the most interesting of topics. Of course, no one says thanks when everything is up & working. But mayhem can and will happen. Historically, you have a 1-in-3 chance of a network event/year. So over a 3-year subscription, on average, you have 100% chance of an outage. Lost network = lost customers = lost revenue = lost company-job The best insurance is planning not panicking. But did you know redundancy is easily achievable today? TIP #9 ARG’s Top 15 Tech Tips For 2015 | September 2014

Redundant Bandwidth: Failover or Failure There are now many enablers of manageable “always-on” Internet failover. Alternate fiber access (can be as cheap at $700). High[er] speed Ethernet-over-Copper alternatives equivalent to fiber. Aggressively priced and increasingly available broadband cable (Comcast Business Class is $90-$160), FiOS, etc. 4G Providers who package dual ISP connectivity as a turn-key service. Voice/SIP failover access via the Internet. Everybody can find something in their budget for failover. TIP #9 ARG’s Top 15 Tech Tips For 2015 | September 2014

Redundant Bandwidth: Failover or Failure Don’t get hung up on how to make it work – we can help with that. Go simple and wireless You could deploy a device (or redundant devices) BGP SIP failover to an internet based carrier Everybody can find an technical option for failover. TIP #9 ARG’s Top 15 Tech Tips For 2015 | September 2014

Redundant bandwidth isn’t optional anymore. If you don’t have backup internet in 2015, get it! TIP #9 ARG’s Top 15 Tech Tips For 2015 | September 2014
