IMPORTANCE OF SMEs Engine of Economic growth. Reduction in Economic Risk. Constructing Peripheral business activities. Reduction in disparities through trickle down effects. Poverty Reduction through employment generating fiscal mechanism. Constructing Healthy competition. Developers of entrepreneurial culture. Promotion of Learning Environment Economic Externalities.

ECONOMIC CONTRIBUTION OF SMEs IN OIC STATES 75% contribution in Developing Countries GDP In Bangladesh 80 per cent of industrial employment. In Indonesia, –Two thirds of small businesses in the agricultural sector –17 per cent in trading (including restaurants and hotels) –7 per cent in processing industries –5 per cent in the service sector. In Malaysia, –15 per cent of total output –18 per cent of value addition –17 per cent of employment in the manufacturing sector. In Pakistan, –Contribution to GDP is more than 30 percent; –80 per cent Employment of the industrial labor force –60 per cent Employment of the manufacturing sector.

SME SHARE IN EXPORT OF OIC COUNTRIES Positive impact on the trade balances by: Generating Exports from OIC countries. Low-cost and labor-intensive products. Less capital-intensive imports In Malaysia, –20 per cent in exports; In Bangladesh –70 percent in exports In Jordan –29 percent in exports, In Turkey –30 percent in exports In Pakistan, –80 per cent of the total exports of manufactured products. In Indonesia, (only for direct exports) –less than 2 per cent are involved in exports,

In Pakistan, FPCCI has been participating in the development of SMEs sector by different ways. - Standing committee on SMEs related issues. -Recommendation of policy measures to the fiscal and monetary authorities for enhancement the role and share of SMEs in the economy. -On FPCCI recommendation, commercial banks have been directed by the State Bank of Pakistan to establish separate windows and allocate separate funds for financing to the SMEs. -In collaboration with FPCCI, the USAID Business Support Fund has been granting the financial assistance to the SMEs for developing of websites, branding, campaign for image building, acquisition of trademarks, participation in fairs and exhibitions and many other such activities. -Competitiveness Support Funds( FPCCI, USAID and WEF)

CONCLUSION Basic aspects of SMEs Development Strategies: –Determining the desirable outcome and level of SMEs development. –SMEs should promote collaborations, regional cooperation, joint ventures and integrations between the various geographical regions of Muslim World. They must not lead the segmentation or isolation of Muslim societies. –SMEs must not compete with the MNCs and transnational corporations. The importance of transnational and big corporations should not be undermined.
