IABIN Invasives Information Network Project - Jamaica (I3N - JA)

Preparations Lead Agency: Jamaica Clearing-House Mechanism (JA CHM), Natural History Division, Institute of Jamaica Project Lead: Senior Research Officer - CHM Submitted application for the grant of US$12,000 to the USGS

Approaches to date Draft National Biodiversity Strategy & Action Plan Gaps and Challenges: * Inadequate information on the biology, distribution and the ecological and economical impacts of introduced alien species

Approaches to date (cont.) * Greater control needed over the importation of agricultural plants & animals to prevent the introduction of harmful alien invasive species Advisory Committee Representatives from the Ministries of Land & Environment and of Agriculture, University of the West Indies, National Working Group on Alien Invasive Species, Institute of Jamaica and the IABIN Focal Point

Some Proposed Project Activities Questionnairre to assess the current status of invasive species information – There is existing data and information in Jamaica. However, it uncertain who are all the generators, holders and users of the data and information. Workshop – Familiarize collaborators with the I3N - JA project and initiate the collection of data and information.
