Presentation transcript:

Exchange of practices and experience in developing national information systems on population’s connection to public water supply and to wastewater treatment Setting the scene Regional workshop for the countries of South-Eastern and Eastern Europe, Caucasus and Central Asia on water information systems and reporting of water data Geneva, 13 May 2014 Lukasz Wyrowski Manager, Programme on Environmental Monitoring and Assessment

Background JTF-7 - Review of six water indicators: 1.Total water use 2.Public water supply 3.Connection of population to public water supply 4.Population connected to wastewater treatment 5.Wastewater treatment facilities 6.Concentration of pollutants in seawater and sediments

Findings at JTF-7 These indicators cause difficulties -No effective system established -Lack of cooperation with water and sewage industry Call for good practice and experience sharing in this field

Conclusion of JTF-7 A workshop should be organized to share knowledge, good practice on establishing an effective system for data collection and quality assurance in the field of water (population connection to water supply and waste water treatment)

Workshop Session II: Start of sharing the good practice and experience but also challenges in this particular water field -Serbia -Bosnia and Herzegovina
