TORO ID PRE COOLER (Patent Pending) for Air Cooled Condensers Improving Cooling Efficiency and Energy Conservation in Air Cooled HVAC Systems

Typical Air Cooled condensing Unit

Air Cooled V type condenser

HVAC Rating Most of the packaged and central Refrigeration or Air conditioning systems, offered in the Indian market are Air Cooled. The systems are Labeled for rated capacity and performance at standard ARI conditions : Dry bulb 95°F (35.0 °C) Wet bulb 75°F (23.8°C)

Derating and System failures HVAC systems get de-rated by nearly 20 to 30% or more at higher condensing temperature. They consume more energy to meet the design load. Besides derating, the compressor motors get overloaded due to higher head pressure and may burn out in many cases thus increasing maintenance costs. Lubricating oils experience chemical break down at higher than design temperatures.

Why use a Pre Cooler ? Most parts of India barring a few high altitude locations, experience high dry bulb temperature, much above the ARI standard of 35°C for refrigerating capacity rating. So to recoup the lost capacity due to high condensing temperature, some form of cooling is essential, especially in extreme climates like Indian summers

High Ambient Temperature Cooling Capacity Loss Higher Head pressure Higher energy use

Pad type Pre Cooler Cell Pad Pad Type Pre Cooler 50%High water use Prone to clogging No temperature control No water drain provision High life cycle costs Temperatures always 3-4 ° C above wet bulb Pad Type Pre Cooler

Pre Cooler – Mollier Chart

Where to use TORO ID Pre coolers ? Summer ambient dry bulb temperature in dry and composite climate areas normally stays between 40 to 45°C but may exceed 47 °C at some locations. Toro Pre Cooler can be used almost every where in India, wherever the ambient temperature exceeds 35 °C for more than 1200 hours in a year.

Where are we today ? Use of Pre cooler is not very common in India. Under the ECBC code,it may become essential to use pre coolers to claim building efficiency ratings. Many utilities in India are expected to offer incentives for installing pre coolers to control load peaking in summer, like USA Energy efficiency and water usage are major concern for sustainable cooling and will need to be addressed by these solutions.

Cooling Capacity Enhancement

Reducing Condensing Pressure

Lowering Energy Consumption

What is TORO ID Pre Cooler ? Toro pre cooler is the only Two stage,Heat and Mass transfer module that can cool the ambient air to *below the wet bulb using 50% less water compared to cellulose media or any other adiabatic cooling process. It ensures that the condenser inlet air temperature never exceeds 30°C even if the ambient dry bulb is higher than 47°C and wet bulb reaches 28°C * At least 1 to 2°C below

Toro ID Pre Cooler-Mollier Chart

TORO ID Pre Cooler Toro ID Pre Cooler Approach to Dew Point Toro ID Pre Cooler 50% Lower water use Longer pad life Integral temperature control Auto water drain provision Lowest life cycle costs Temperatures always 1-2° C below wet bulb SS-304/ Roto-moulded body Suction line sensor (optional)

What is the big difference Toro ID Pre Cooler Approach to Dew Point Pad type Pre Cooler Approach to Wet Bulb

TORO ID Pre Cooler Maintains suction temperatures near 4°C even at high ambient conditions Enhances capacity Reduces Energy use Lowers peak demand Reduces condensing temperature Extends compressor life Keeps condenser coils cleaner Reduces condenser noise Operates pump with an internal thermostat Auto drain every 24 hours for media safety

Toro ID Pre Cooler doesnt Reduce capacity of AC system Prevent AC system from operating Void any warranties on AC system Increase current draw on existing wire Corrode condenser fins Impede air flow to condenser coils Cause indoor coil freezing Need constant attention Need any maintenance

Toro Pre Cooler – Models Standard Pre Coolers Model Media HeightModule Height Media WidthModule widthDepth TORO ID Pre Coolers can also be custom built to your specification

Special Features Fit on any condensing unit. Non Invasive Fully integrated and self contained Pre wired and Plumbed Save water and energy Condensing Temperature lower than water cooled systems Least attention demand Electronically controlled fan speed (optional) Suction temperature sensor(optional)
